Trouble TTC

Crinone gel (progesterone) question and possibly TMI

Hi ladies.  I am usually a  lurker and I post on TTGP but I thought I should ask this here.  I know nothing is really TMI but this is kinda nasty.  I am on Crinone gel that is applied vaginally and this is my 5th day using it.

Here is the gross part- I am finding  a lot of dry residue.  It looks similar to dry deoderant balls if you know what I mean.  I haven't been checking my CM due to the gel.  Well, I just tried and out came a lot of residue. I don't even think that word justifies it.

Has anyone used this?  How much is normal? Is each new application getting to my cervix if there is a build up? My DH knows about this issue but I think he is nervous so we haven't had sex since.  If I get my BFP, I have to continue the gel for several weeks.   I will call my dr if it continues to get worse but I thought I would ask here too.

 TIA!

Re: Crinone gel (progesterone) question and possibly TMI

  • I haven't asked my dr. yet.  To be honest, I didn't realize how bad it was until I tried to check my CM tonight.  I think I will make the call tomorrow.  I don't think it is any kind of infection but I don't want it to lead to that.

    Thanks papps!

  • I am currently using this and used Crinone last cycle as well. This sounds totally normal. It's not pretty! I haven't checked my CM internally though so I haven't experienced too much "residue". But to me, it's nothing to worry about. If you are concerned, call your doc. Good luck!

  • I never used the Crinone gel but I used the pill suppositories. It sounds normal to me but if you are worried I would definitely call your doctor.

  • Thank you ladies!  I will be making a call to my dr just in case but I feel better knowing that it sounds normal.

  • It's totally normal.  If you read the leaflet that comes with it, it talks about the residue.  It's actually the leftover gel that hasn't absorbed into your body.  The progesterone has, but the leftover residue is just the vehicle that transports the progesterone.

Are you using it in the morning?  When I'm in the shower, I er... clean out the old residue, and then when I get out of the shower, apply the new.  Sorry there really isn't a polite way to say that!!

Agree w/ Badtz.  That gel is nasty nasty stuff.  If you actually check up near your cervix, there is wads of what looks like old caulk up there.  I hated it, but it serves its purpose.

What you described is totally normal.

LOL!  I did read about it and even googled it.  I was expecting less of it and more of a wet feeling to it so that was why I was concerned.  I will be doing a daily check/cleaning.  Thanks for your help!  I really appreciate it.
