Abs are not a muscle you can do much about in pregnancy. You're not going to have them, so no use in trying sit-ups or anything. Yoga is wonderful and you can still work your back and shoulders. I'm loving the Moms Into Fitness DVDs. She is going to kick my butt into shape after this baby is born, but also keeping me fit while I'm pregnant.
Okayyy, I'll let them go for now. I guess I was thinking maybe there was some trick out there because I'd imagine it helps during l&d...recently re-joined the gym so just doing the elliptical for now, but I also live up four flights of stairs and waitress 12 hour shifts, so! I have my cardio. I'll check out the DVD you mentioned. Perhaps Netflix will have it so I can preview
I'm still doing crunches on a swiss ball, planks, core twists (on a machine), pelvic tilts, etc. A strong core - not just abs, but core generally - means less back pain. I like less pain, so I'm keeping up my core strength.
It's only a problem if your ab muscles separate - talk to your doctor and google how to test for it. I haven't had any problems at all yet, so I haven't stopped my usual exercises.
mmK, so I meant to say core sorry for that confusion, but THANK YOU for the advise! It was my favorite part of my gym-routine before, so I was missing it. I'll go back to my ball and do some side crunches to test the waters.
I have been doing standing ab exercises because I have not been too sure about abs while pregnant either. And I don't do them hardcore either. Good question - now I have a better answer!
Re: anything for abs while pg?
Disagree with pp 100%.
