photo studios?

Sadly, we don't have a Picture People studio any where near NOLA and I am super jealous b/c they do such a great job from all of the pics I have seen here.  Anyone had any extra good experiences with any other studios?  I know JCPenney and Sears have studios here.  Anyone tried them?  know of any other places maybe I haven't thought of?

Re: photo studios?

  • I have good luck at sears.  A good friend of mine had a bad experience at JCP so I just never bothered but probably really depends on your area.  I don't think the people are highly trained well but I usually have a good idea of what I want and usually just want to showcase his cute outfit or something.  I'm really only looking for one good seasonal shot to send out to relatives and add to his baby book so for that it's been a great cheap way to go.

They always have $8/no sitting fee package coupons for your selected single pose so you really don't have much to loose if they are convenient to you.  They do try to upsell but I don't usually order anything additional - a month or so goes by and then they email me with a $5.99 or so sheet special for internet re-orders so I then order more if needed.

  • some BRU stores have picture places in the stores. my sister has brought her kids to the local BRU store every year since they were born and the pictures have all turned out great. they are now going to be 7 & 5.

  • I've done portrait innovations and it honestly depends on who's taking the pictures. We've had the best luck with a photographer that we meet somewhere. We're had the same photographer take the last two sets of pictures and it was honestly cheaper than going to portrait innovations. Places like that get you because the package for $9 but then they charge you a ton for each sheet, which is how we spent about $150 once there! I would check CL or ask friends in your area if they recommend a photographer. Ours charges between $100-$150 and we get a disc with all of our prints so we can print anything off the disk we want.
  • We had some Halloween pictures taken of M at Sears because they had a great package for $4.95 with lots of pictures but we were not very pleased. Maybe b/c M was getting tired but the photog had him do weird poses and the pictures came out looking weird. Anyway it was only $5 so we weren't upset :)

I would suggest looking on Groupon or Living social. I bought a session for $50 on Groupon and the pictures turned out great, and it was with a professional photog. It also came with digital hi-res images on a cd. I see deals like that all the time in my area...

  • also depends on whether you want the hi-res pictures on disc.  i've called sears and jcp, and around here, the cost of the disc makes it not worthwhile to go there, instead, i found someone just starting out whose portfolio i liked - she charges something like $100 or $150 per session, including the disc.  however, if you can get the pictures off an online preview, or just want prints, i think those are great options!
