I gave birth Sept 18 to my twins. I lost my son oct 4 and my daughter oct 14 due to major prematurity. I have been seeing a therapist for a few months and was reffered to a psychiatrist for depression meds, just started today. has anyone had any really bad effects from it? im on prozac , or generic form.
Re: Depression after loss? meds? what works etc
OMG. I am so sorry for your loss.
I have taken prozac before, but not since my loss. I don't know if it worked or just waiting out my issues helped. I felt like it kind of deadened my emotions and made everything seem irrelevant.
I tried to convince my DH that I should stay slightly intoxicated for the next 6 months or so, but he was not so supportive of that.
I hope the prozac helps you. Again, I am so very sorry.
PGAL/PAL Always Welcome
I am so sorry. I was on xanax right after my d & e (the day before thanksgiving), and i stayed on it (half a tablet at night/ half in the am) until Christmas eve b/c I didn't like that I didn't feel like i was really handling the grief at all. it seemed like i was just shoving it aside.
It was tough going off of it...but i found blogging/ writing down my emotions (i don't always publish what i write), and exercising for about 30 min a day really helped. last week i got sick and it was the first time i couldn't exercise or feel like writing. by friday i was horrible emotionally speaking..so i know it must help for me.
you just have to make the right decision for you. if you think meds will help, then go for it and try it! you have to look out for you!
{hugs} and GL

I am so sorry for your losses.
I am a licensed Social worker. Prozac has been around for a while, its a pretty mild drug usually patients have little or tolerable side effects. It may take a few weeks before reaching its full effects. By the time it begins working effectively your body is usually already tolerable to (if any side effects). I hope the medication/therapy helps you feel better.
I have always heard very positive things about Wellbutrin having the least amount of side effects.
