First RE Appt and questions

I'm new around here but I have a couple questions.

Background:  My OB has been treating me for long cycles and no ovulation.  My bloodwork showed a problem with LH and FSH levels.  Well, I did 50 mg of Clomid this cycle and I'm on day 39 with no ovulation.  I insisted on being properly monitored next cycle and my OB referred me to an RE.  I have my first RE appt. this coming Thursday.  Here are my questions:

1.  OB told me to refill my provera prescription at day 40 if no ovulation or period.  Should I go ahead and get started on provera and move towards my next cycle, even though I'm seeing the RE next week?  Or should I just wait for the RE to tell me what to do.  I hate to lose days waiting to start the next cycle, but I don't want to do anything to interfere with proper treatment from the RE.

2.  What should I expect at my first RE appointment?  I received a bunch of paperwork in the mail to fill out before our appointment that we finished yesterday.

Thanks in advance for your help!

  • I am sure you RE is going to want to do some testing for you. Even if you had testing done with your OB most REs want to do testing with their own labs. Most are cycle day specific in the beginning of your cycle. If it was me, I would wait to talk to her and then take the provera so you can get the testing done without having to wait another month.

Oh and what to expect. Mostly they will go over all that paper work. Find out about you and your Hs family and medical history and then run some testing. Usually they will wait until all the tests are complete and back before deciding on a game plan.

    Good luck

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.

  • I would wait on the provera.  Your RE will want to do Day 3 blood tests and you might as well wait so you can start the testing cycle with the RE early.  The first meeting is long, but for me it was informational and very helpful.  They will want to test your husbands sperm as well and most likely do an HSG, ultrasound and tons of blood work.  My RE does genetic testing and stuff like HIV too before they start.
