Are all Anat Scans 4D?

I've seen those super cool 4D u/s that some people have posted from the Optional U/s Places, and just wondering if thats what I will get when I go for my Anatomy scan.... or does that just depend on your doc/hospital machine?

Re: Are all Anat Scans 4D?

  • I know that my doctor gave me the option for one of two places to get it done.  Through our local hospital, or at an optional place.  She said that the optional one can tell us the same amount of information but produce much better images.  Maybe it depends from doctor to doctor?  I think we will do the optional one since they can tell us the same things but get some good photos! :)

  • I have no idea, but it's not standard at my practice.  I *think* that if you go for a level 2 u/s or need further studies, it *may* be in 3/4D.

I'm eager to see everyone else's answers!

  • boo :(

I'm guessing since my Level 2 NT scan was not 4D then my level 2 Anatomy Scan wont be either... (both will be at my delivering hospital)

  • I know that either scan that I have done (at the hospital or optional place) are included in insurance of some sort....I haven't technically checked all the details out though.  My doctor's office does something where it's like a "maternity package" and the normal things done (not including lab work) is all covered in there.

Maybe check online and just see what places are available to you.  Then just call and ask if they take insurance...it's possible that it would not cost you that much.

My OB sends me to the hospital radiology dept for level 2 u/s. They never really said that there were other options. I already scheduled mine for Feb.11

  • Typically no. Anatomy scans at traditional hospitals or OB offices are usually just "normal" u/s. My OBs office has the ability but charges for a later term 3D u/s.

  • My nt scan was 4D so I imagine my anatomy scan will be as well.

  • I have had all kinds of ultrasounds for pregnancy complications, and I have never had a 3D/4D one. Doctors mostly look at them as a novelty - at least the ones I know. I've been sent to different places for higher quality images, had level 1 and 2 u/s, and all that jazz, and it's only 3D/4D if you shell out the dough.

Some doctors actually recommend against them. Something about the ultrasound wave levels not being regulated the same way they are in a doctor's office.

  • I just went to the dr yesterday and her office recomends 2 places to go - the hospital or another private place. Luckily I was aware that the private place offers 3d/4d ultrasounds and I asked the nurse if I could get that done. She actually checked it off on the "prescription" she gave me that they were requesting a 3d ultrasound. So looks like it is covered by insurance.

  • My doc said that the insurance will not cover the 3D/4D and I have to pay 150 for it. However, I have to go to a high risk OB appointment on 2/7 and that is a 3D/4D one and its free..Think it depends on the doc and the insurance.
