I know this is kinda late, but just curious...do you make them? I haven't since high school, but just this week I was wondering if I should at least have some defined goal(s) for this year other than ideas of things I want to do floating around in the back of my head.

Re: Poll: New Year Resolutions
Not rigid goals as such, but loosely defined ideas for what I'd like to accomplish this year.
I'd like to become a better photographer. So I'm working harder at learning how to properly use my camera and am doing a 365 project to force myself to use it every day.
I'd like to become healthier, and to set a good example for my sons. I have massive body image issues right now, and because of my gestational diabetes I'm always at risk for developing diabetes later in life. I've started by cutting back on refined sugar in small ways -- e.g., only one spoon of sugar in my coffee instead of 1.5-2 -- and loosely tracking my nutrition/calories and exercise - nothing hardcore at this stage, I just want to get a general idea of where I'm doing well and where I'm not doing well with my nutrition (in general it's pretty good - the fats are a teensy bit high and a few vitamins a little low, so I think it's probably a portion size issue more than anything).
I'd like to progress farther in my career, or at least take steps toward doing that. I'm starting up my masters again after a 1 year hiatus and am investigating some other options...my workplace is not very encouraging so we'll see how this pans out.
oi =/ yeah, that can be rough...do they have to know? or are you able to take night classes without them having to really know?
I could have written this post myself! I also want to become a better photog and learn how to use my camera...I really just need to find the time to do it!
Like Lisa, I had GD and am at a higher risk for developing Type II as well as for having it again with the next PG. I've lost 55 lbs. since giving birth to Libby and want to drop about 30-40 more before TTC#2 in late summer. Having to use insulin was a wake-up call. I've mainly kept the good eating habits I developed while dealing with GD, but I need to excercise regularly which I've not done since Libby was born. We walk, but just not consistently or regularly. Part of being healthier this year includes regular exercise and exploring new, healthy foods, like eggplant, parsnips, lentils, etc. We don't eat these things regularly and I want to start incorporating new veggies, etc. into our routine.
Finally, my job situation is my number resolution this year. To either find a new position that meets ALL of my needs (work-life balance, personal career goals, etc.) or to be okay with the current job I have (it's a constant struggle...there's lots to like about it but also some MAJOR things not to like). I've decided that I will not start my accelerated MBA until baby #2 is 1 year old, which I hope will be Summer of 2013 and completing it in December 2014. We shall see about that!

My resolutions were to CD all the time out of daycare (so far, so good) and cook more instead of takeout (so far, so good). I love to cook but have fallen out of the habit after giving birth. We've gotten so lazy and order takeout all. the. time!
To be fair, though, neither of these had anything to do with the new year, and just happened to coincide with this time of year.
Oh it's not that they're not encouraging about the degree - they don't really care about that.
It's more the rest of it...
People in my role are pretty much at the bottom of the food chain. It's a sometimes physically strenuous and (where I work) a usually thankless job, and we're basically treated as expendable by management. I recently asked the person in charge of staff development for some help finding some training seminars to attend (that being her job and all) and she essentially blew me off. I'm sure it would be different if I was in any other role, but there is little to no interest in developing the people who work in my area. It's immensely frustrating and if I didn't have such a fab maternity leave package I'd probably be looking elsewhere. As it is, I'm keeping my eyes open and once my mat leave runs out I'll actually apply other places if anything comes up (which isn't that often anyway).
I have a kickass recipe for eggplant lasagne (pasta free - the eggplant takes it's place). It's a bit time consuming but makes a large dish so there are plenty of leftovers - and it's SO worth it! Let me know if you're interested. I also have a really good curry that involves lentils and other legumes.
haha I am like Sandy, no resolutions for me!
I'd love the recipe
thanks!

Haha, I wonder if I did that too and then forgot about it?
I think it was the whole considering to join 24hr fitness for the daycare that got me thinking about resolutions =P Mainly because I majorly need to get some exercise...I've been way too sedentary ever since I got pg!
But like others, I'd like to get better at photog & cook more often too
I think these are goals I had already, before the new year, but in my head and not really "written down".
