A few weeks ago, I posted about some breathing problems I was having. After several suggested to call my doctor, I did. The nurse told me to go straight to the hospital bc what I was describing wasn't normal. Everything checked out fine and I was sent home. Since then, the breathing difficulties come and go.
Today I had a check up. I am 31 weeks, 3 days pregnant and when my doctor asked if anything was worrying/bothering me, I again mentioned the breathing. This time I was able to describe this pain to her, rather than the nurse. Her response was, "things can happen to the heart during pregnancy and we should definitely get that checked out". I scheduled an appointment with the cardiologist she referred me to but wanted to see if any of you have had this issue. My breathing problems have been shortness of breath, feeling like no matter how many deep breaths I take, I don't have enough in my lungs, gasping for air, feeling like I have to remind myself to breathe instead of it being a natural thing, etc. Anyone else? Anyone else had to see a cardiologist during pregnancy?
I'm not worried because my doctor didn't seem too worried but just wanted to see if anyone else has been through this.
Re: 31 weeks & have to see cardiologist
I wasn't having breathing problems, but with my first my heart would race. My resting heartrate was ridiculously high for no good reason.
They sent me to a cardiologist. I had an echo done, and I had to wear a monitor for 24 hours. It all checked out. Not that it answered why it was happening, but I was fine.
So, I can't offer you any advice, but I'm glad that you're getting checked out and I hope it all turns out fine. Don't worry about it too much.
Good luck!

Same here- saw one early on for palpitations and "cardiac awareness" - had EKG, echo, heart monitor x 30 days. Better to be safe than sorry- everything checked out fine- I was having some skipped beats and they discovered MVP but they weren't worried unless my symptoms for in the way of my ADLs.
I just wanted to say that what you describe is pretty much what happens to me some years during allergy season. I start to experience shortness of breath, and it's like I can never fully fill up my lungs, no matter how many deep breaths I take. I become very conscious of my breathing because it feels like I never have enough air.
Is it possible that your allergies are acting up, or that pregnancy has set off some new allergy that is affecting your breathing? I think that mold spores are small enough to get through and into your lungs. Just something to think about.
i have asthma and have suffered with this breathing problem through both of my pregnancies especially after 28 weeks when I get bigger. It is a horrible feeling. Have you seen a pulmonolgist? I am curious why they aren't sending you to one of them also. I do not get chest pain though. I feel like I can not breath, or take a deep breath. I sometimes have to get breathing treatments. My mom got pregnancy induced asthma with one of her pregnancies and she had to have breathing treatments as well.
Just want to let you know that there is nothing wrong with my heart. My lungs just can't take the added pressure.
