For those whose LO had the MMR/Varicella vaccine

If your LO had a reaction, exactly how many days later did it happen? I want to watch DS extra closely for febrile seizures during his high risk period and I read that a reaction can occur 7-10 days after getting the shot...

DS spiked a fever about 8 days later. It lasted about 48 hours.

Max got a fever 8 days later that lasted for 2 days and a rash on his chest at 14 days post vaccine.

our ped said 7-10 days after...the only reaction ds had was a bump on his leg where hte actual injection was given (I forget which shot actually left the mark thoguh)

DD's fever came 9 days after shot. Lasted two days. Fever went away and red dots appeared. Those lasted three days.

I wouldn't call 4 responses to a post where you only asked for responses from those whose LO had a reaction to be "lots of reactions." The vast majority of kids have very minor to no reaction at all.

However, since your LO has had an episode (in response to another vaccine?), you should probably ask your ped if any special monitoring is necessary after the vaccine.

No, his febrile seizure was in response to a high fever from just the common cold, he's never had a reaction to any vaccine and he's followed the standard CDC vaccine schedule. I'm just worried now that he's had one febrile seizure because the MMR and Varicella vaccines are supposed to carry a higher chance of post-vaccine fever than the other shots he's had, PLUS they are supposed to carry a higher chance of febrile seizures...

Can you just ask his daycare to take his temp a few times a day and call you if it's over a set level? I would think they would be happy to do that. You could say, call me if he has a temp over 100 (or whatever you think is an indication that he's getting feverish). Then you wouldn't have to keep him home the whole week.

Yes, I've already asked her to do that and she is authorized to give him Tylenol at the first sign of fever, I just don't want to take a chance on him having a seizure in her care in case she doesn't catch it in time....

LO hasn't gotten this vaccine yet but I understand your concern. MY DS just had a febrile seizure Sunday night. It was the scariest moment in my life and I can't imagine having to go through that again.

Having gone through a seizure I personally would keep DS out of daycare to monitor. But that's just me.

That really sucks, I'm sorry you had to go through it too. No fun watching your LO pass out in your arms (that's what happened in our case). The good thing is that these seizures don't affect our babies, just hard as sh*t on us! Anyway, it's too late for me but talk to your pedi about splitting up the 2 vaccines...
