Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Spotting after MC? TMI, sorry

My natural MC started on the 7th and lasted for about three days. On the 10th I started spotting and have been doing so ever since. The spotting has all been brown up until yesterday when it turned bright red. My question is, is it normal to spot for so long (day 9 for me) after a MC? And why all of a sudden did it go back to red after it had been brown for so long? Has anyone had this happen before? I just want this whole spotting /MC thing to be over with...

Re: Spotting after MC? TMI, sorry

  • I'm sorry for your loss and that you are having to deal with that constant reminder.

I do think its all normal though. The brown blood is old blood. As for the fresh blood you are noticing now its probably just that all of the tissue wasn't completely passed so your body is still working on it. If it continues for another week or so I'd let your doctor know and certainly if it is getting really heavy for painful.

     I hope it stops soon!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. My doctor said spotting can last up to two weeks after the m/c. I continued to spot after two weeks, and that's when my doc arranged bloodwork and ultrasounds. In my situation, I had (and continue to have) retained tissue, which we are now hoping will pass naturally. I am over 4 weeks past my natural m/c.

I hear you on wanting it to be over with.  I would check in with your doctor, and they'll probably arrange an ultrasound & bloodwork for some answers. Good luck.

  • First, I am sorry for your losses.  Yes, almost the exact same thing happened to me when I miscarried last.  I bled for about three days when most of the cramping etc happened. Then it almost stopped, and I thought it was over, and then the red blood started again.  I think all in all, it lasted about 9-10 days.  Everyone is different, but I dont think what you are experiencing is abnormal.
