NBR: Disney hotels

I know this was discussed the other day and it seemed like you ladies are very experienced so I thought I would get your opinion.

We're planning a trip for next year and would really like to stay on the monorail since we'll either have a double stroller or 2 singles.  We've stayed at the Grand Floridian but I havent been to the Polynisian since I was 2 and I've never stayed at the Contemporary.  Any pros or cons about either?  What about the restaurants and quick service places at each?  Anything you can share would be great.

Re: NBR: Disney hotels

  • I've stayed @ the GF & the Port Orleans Resorts. And I think no matter where you stay on the Disney resort properties, you really can't go wrong. They all have pools for the kiddos & lost of places to eat. I would suggest buying the meal plan though - I haven't been in about 6 years, but last time we went my mom (it was my college grad present) bought the meal plan where you get 3 meals & 2 snacks a day. You could use the meal allowances at any of the resorts OR parks...it was AWESOME! Have fun!

  • I would go to the Poly.  It's a lot more exciting, kid wise, than the GF or Contempory.

  • H and I stayed at the Contemporary a few years ago. Honestly, the only thing I liked about it was the access to the monorail - that was really nice. Really quick to the Magic Kingdom. Had one quick service place to get coffee and a bagel or something but that is it. Had an expensive restaurant that we didn't eat at (we ate at the parks or at Downtown Disney). I didn't care for the rooms or decor.

We stayed at the Swan and Dolphin last year and like it soooo much better. The hotel is beautiful and I loved the rooms and decor. Can take a ferry to Epcot and Hollywood studios from there. Con - longer bus ride to magic kingdom.

  • I have not stayed at any of the monorail hotels but I think you really can not go wrong with any of those.  If you decide to look at non monorail resprts - We stayed at Wilderness Lodge and it was a quick boat ride to MK and it was also a pretty fast bus ride to Epcot and Hollywood studios.  I also agree with pp about signing up for the Disney dining plan.  My DH and have done that the past 2 times we were there and were very happy with it.  Let me know if you have any other questions!!

  • I found that in my booking process that Polynesian is more of a child friendly place! at least that is how it seems. I will tell you though, we have stayed at none monorail spots with two strollers and it isn't that bad.

  • We stayed at the Contemporary the first 5 times we went there as a kid, and I always remember loving it and being excited about. Been to the Polynesian, but never stayed there, but I can say it looks like it would be a lot of fun as well. I think you can't go wrong with either.

  • Check out mousesavers.com if you haven't already. I don't know your travel situation, but they have a link to a stroller rental place that will deliver to your hotel and it works out cheaper than renting one/two at disney and then you won't have to travel with them.

Also, i haven't stayed at any of the on property resorts yet, but a friend and her family just went and they said they liked the pop century because of the value price and it was either the closest to the parks or the they had their own shuttle and didn't share with any other resorts. Might be something else to check in to.

  • LOVE THE POLYNESIAN.  That said, I've only stayed there one night, but I loved it.  We make a point of visiting that hotel everytime we go.  They have the best food, a beach, it is just awesome.
