Carpal Tunnel?

I think I have carpal tunnel from my pregnancy.  For the past three nights no matter how I sleep my right hand/arm goes numb.  Its painful and I wake up every hour or 2 and have to move my arm.  Is this happening to anyone else?  I did some research online, think I may go get a brace after work.  I will talk to my Dr. at my next appt but wanted to see if anyone had any tips on how to help the pain until then.  Thanks ladies

Re: Carpal Tunnel?

  • my left hand does it every once in a while, but I think it may be because of swelling.

  • I've had carpal tunnel since before the pregnancy, and it has been worse lately.  I think it is a combination of all the other pregnancy stuff plus laying on your side which I feel like makes the circulation to my hands worse.  I do wear wrist braces at night when it gets bad enough, and that does seem to help.  You can get cheap ones at walgreens or cvs or somewhere like that, those are the kind I wear and just keeping my wrists straight and not all crumpled seems to help.

  • I take a Tylenol before bed and wear the braces for it. The best wrist brace is at Target and is light blue in color--by far the MOST comfy to sleep in.
  • I have had "pregnancy carpal tunnel" for months now. I have mentioned it to the ob and nurse practitioner. Both told me there is not much you can really do at all and its always going to be worse at night. The ob told me it is usually due to swelling/water retention in a weird area in your wrist and should go away pretty much immediately after birth. Luckily it is only bad on my right hand, but it gets really annoying. I didnt bother getting a brace because the dr said it would most likely not change anything.
