Hi ladies! I'm new here but have been lurking a little in the past few weeks. I have a question for those of you who have been on clomid. Did your OBGYN do any testing before they prescribed it? Mine didn't and I'm just not sure if that is normal or safe. I'm on my second cycle at 100mg and he really isn't monitoring me in any way. I'm not having any side effects but I'm also not loving the fact that I feel like I'm out here all alone without the help of my OBGYN. Should I see someone else? Another OBGYN or a RE? Or is the normal and I am just stressing about something else?
Any help would really be appreciated!
Re: clomid ?
I would also agree with seeing an RE. You will feel much less alone!
It's important to know how you are responding. If no response, you'd want to know so you can move to something else. If too good a response, you'd want to know that too. They will usually cancel your cycle if you have more than three follies due to risk of multiples. Best of luck!

You should definitely have had a lot of testing before taking Clomid - an HSG to check if your tubes are open, bloodwork to see how your hormone levels are and if you are ovulating, and a semen analysis for your husband.
You also definitely need to be monitored while on Clomid, since it puts you at risk for ovarian cysts, thinned uterine lining, and OHSS, any of which can either inhibit your getting pregnant or cause serious health issues for you.
I agree with the previous poster, ditch your OB/GYN and move on to an RE. GL to you!
Madygirl...I just signed on to post almost the exact same question! I talked to a nurse at my OB/GYN's office today about "next steps" (after a normal HSG and a SA with low morph) and she suggested starting 50 mg of clomid next cycle. I asked about monitoring while on clomid and she said they do not do that. But from what I remembered reading on this board in the past, I was uncomfortable with that. I am starting to feel like my OB/GYN has done all that she can for me and am considering switching to a RE.

Baby N conceived after 1 miscarriage and more than 2 years of TTC. Diagnosis was low sperm count. We found success after 3 months of anastrozole to increase DH's testosterone and one IUI.

Ditch the OBGYN and see a specialist. When my DH and I finally figured we needed help form doctors to conceive, I asked my OBGYN about the problems and she immediately referred me to specialist. I went through extensive blood work, many ultra sounds, HSG, and a few more ultra sounds to make sure my lining was the right thickness, and I had no cysts on my ovaries before they even thought to prescribe my Clomid. First cycle I got a positive OPK on CD 17, but not BFP. Before I was cleared for a second cycle of Clomid I had to have another ultra sound. I am now on CD 13 waiting for a positive OPK. figures crossed it works this time!
So I would definitely seek another doctor! I am so thankful for how attentive and caring and understanding all my RE specialists are!
My OB didnt prescribe our Clomid. Our RE did.
Yes, I had CD3 bloodwork done, an HSG done, as well as DH had a SA.
I was monitored while I was on it as well.

Ditto.
Also, please read the link in my siggy about the importance of being monitered.

Thanks to everyone for all the info. I'm glad I posted the question.
My OB did start me on 50mg last month and then 100mg this month. He put me on it at my yearly check-up in Dec and said we would "just try and see". No u/s blood work or anything. I did ask about those things and he said that if after 3 months I was not pregnant then we would do those things. I trusted him - he delivered my daughter (she is 2.5) - I've used him for years - even before TTC my DD. I had no reason to think he wasn't being honest or profesional with me.
Anyway, I will be calling his office today to demand the testing and also looking for a specialist who can hopefuly get me in before next cycle. I am cycle day 11 right now.
Again - thanks for all the helpful posts and answers.
