I am just wondering if anyone is eating soft goat cheese or crumbled feta? I am really craving some on a salad. If it is pasteurized and from a reputable restaurant, it should be OK, right? Or am I crazy to eat it/take the risk?
I have been eating Feta. I know that it is pasterized, I get it from a Greek restaurant that we know the owner of. I haven't had Goat, but I would if I was in the mood!!
I eat it often. I was told by my doctor that it is fine because 90% of what we get in my area is pasteurized and if I'm ever unsure to ask the restaurant. I wouldn't worry about it.
I'm eating any soft cheese that I want as long as it is made from pasteurized milk. I had goat cheese last night while eating out and didn't worry about it at all. Enjoy!

The vast majority of domestically produced feta and goat cheeses are pasteurized. It's the imported varieties that are the wild cards. I eat both kinds pretty frequently, but I eat turkey sandwiches, too, so take my anecdote as you will!
Also, you can look up whether or not your state even allows the sale of cheeses made with raw milk. Only 28 states actually allow the sale of unpasteurized cheeses, so to ease your mind, you might want to check if your state even allows the sale of unpasteurized cheeses.
Re: Anyone eating Goat Cheese? Feta?
I eat Feta all the time. Just read the label.
This.
Goat Cheese= No, hate it.
Feta Cheese= YES, love it!
If it's pasteurized, you're fine. If I'm at a restaurant, and not sure, I have them ask the chef.
Not being pasteurized = raw. It's way too expensive for a majority of restaurants to serve "raw" cheese. So I'd say for the most part, you're fine.
Agreed with the rest, just check the label.
