s/e menopur and ganirelix

I know everyone is different but did anyone have side effects from menopur or ganirelix?  I was surprised to hear that I will getting 7 syringes of ganirelix.  I thought I only took it for a few days.

Re: s/e menopur and ganirelix

  • hey hon!  No s/e from ganirelix, but I had headaches which I think were from the Menopur.  Nothing awful though, I never even took anything!

  • Hey Beth!

I had no reactions to Menopur. It was Lupron that made me hot and crazy! LOL

    Good luck hon!

  • Hey Beth!  I'm the one that had the crazy reaction to menopur.  When I used it, it made me nearly pass out.  With each injection I would become dizzy, feel like the room was spinning, start sweating and be completely unable to focus on anything.  The initial reaction subsided after a few minutes, but the first time I really thought I had done something wrong and was going to die.  Obviously, my reaction isn't the norm and my RE prescribed me something different from IVF #2.  However, I do recommend giving your fist injection while sitting on a couch, bed or floor (I nearly fell of a chair the first time, MH had to help me lie on the floor).

I used Ganirelix with my second cycle.  I did get headaches, but I was also on several other meds so I don't know if that is why.  It didn't seem as bad as lupron to me.

When you start Ganirelix (and how much you use) depends on the specific version of the protocol your RE is using.  I used mostly half doses of Ganirelix.  I started the Ganirelix two days before stims and took a half dose every morning, except three mornings in which I took full doses, through the day I did my trigger shot.

Even if your protocol doesn't have you start Ganirelix until sometime after starting stims, the amount of time you are using the Ganirelix can depend on when your RE has you start it and how your follicles are responding.

    Good luck!!
