Parenting after 35

What things does your LO do that they did NOT learn from you/DH?

Simon will find a hairbrush and try to brush my hair with it.  It's funny because he didn't learn that at home...I only brush my hair in the shower since it's so curly and DH only brushes his hair in his bathroom so S has never seen us brush our hair.  Maybe he learned it from the little girls at daycare?  Just wondering what activities (or words) your LO does or says that they didn't pick up from you?

  • Throwing a tantrum. Me nor DH stomp our feet or throw ourselves to the ground when we are upset. LOL.

  • Never once have I stormed into a room, opened all the drawers and tossed all the clothing/contents into the center of the room. Perhaps I am missing out since she does it with such glee!

    LOL at butt grabbing...

  • Biting to get our attention.

Especially bare feet and toes when we're not expecting it.

  • Love this thread! LOL @ Fiazo and Hocus!

Sydney leans in like she is going to kiss you and.... bam - licks (or bites) your nose. Yeah, that's not what she learned from us. I have never once licked DH's nose. Ewwww....

  • umm, throwing food is a big one in our house.  when he is done he just starts throwing the food on the ground (thank goodness my dog is always there to clean it up).  My older boys don't even do this - so no idea where he learned this!  He is learning all sorts of bad habits from his older bro's though - like screaming when he wants attention.

S does this one as well.  When she is finished eating, she drops the food on the floor by her high chair.   We've never done this either - thought she might have picked this up at daycare.

The other thing she does we call "the tornado".  She leaves a wake of distruction in her path every evening - dog dishes upturned/ papers strewen on the floor/ toys scattered/end tables cleared of all clutter which is now in the floor.  No clue where she learned this one.

Oh - she also uses towels to scrub the floor.  I keep teasing that we need to give her a scrub brush and some soapy water.  Now this is one behavior that I hope she keeps up!

  • Margaux does what we call a "nup dive."  She sits on the floor and puts a nup (pacifier) in front of her.  Then she looks at it for a few seconds, then dives headfirst for it, no hands.  She comes up with it in her mouth, very pleased.

She also likes to try to trade things back and forth with us using only her mouth.

  • Mikey turns his palms up and shrugs, as if he's in Goodfellas saying, "fuggetaboutit," whenever he's trying to excuse being bad or questioning something. Super cute, but weird since he's never seen that kind of mannerism before.

DH is like 1/16th Italian so we like to say it's an Italian thing that skipped several generations.

  • This is a great thread!

Brushing my hair & his hair (he has no hair to brush)

    Spit cleaning (gross!!)

    Open mouth kisses

  • L just started shaking his head no and then laughing hysterically. I can't recall either DH or I ever shaking our head around him so I'm not sure where he got it from. He has been laughing for no (or little) reason since he was 6 months or so, its just strange to me to try and think of what is so funny to him about shaking his head!
