Exergen temporal thermometer ? Need help

DD has had a fever since yesterday. I'm taking her temp with this thermometer and depending on the side I scan, her temperature can be at fever range 100.5 or borderline 99.6. Ugh, I've taken it a dozen times, each time it gives a different reading. I'm getting annoyed with it. I tried it on myself and it always comes up the same 98.4 but with DD it varies. 

What am I doing wrong?

    You're not doing anything wrong. I've noticed with myself and DS that one side is always warmer than the other. So it just depends on what side you test it on. But if you're going to go with one side, stick to that side and don't switch it up.

    You're not doing anything wrong at least from my nonexpert opinion.

    Whenever I scan my DS forehead I do 3 quick runs side to side and up/down and usually they are w/in .5 degrees of each other so I average it out and go w/that.

    Hope your DD gets better asap :) !
