Hawaii Babies

mamas w/ babies with teeth

M is 7 months and doesn't have teeth yet. Last night he did not sleep well at all...he'd wake up every couple of hours and when he does he fall back to sleep he would jerk and wake up again. He had a slight fever last night of 99.6 and 100.6 this morning. I was thinking it could be teething??? I know a fever is very common with teething, right? He's also either grunting a lot or has a really soft, whiny cry and has pooped in the toilet at least 3 times last night. I don't know what's wrong. I was going to take him to walk in hours later today.

I guess my question is, does this sound like he's teething? How was your little one a day or two before they actually cut teeth? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Re: mamas w/ babies with teeth

  • It could definitely be teething. A mild fever is common, and a lot of babies get runny poo (although others - like mine - get a bit constipated), not to mention the fussiness!

Is he drooling a lot? My boys drool a ton normally, but right before they cut a tooth it ramps up to waterfall levels lol. And chewing on everything in reach?

  • A didn't show any obvious signs of teething -- I usually just discovered them coming out when he'd bite my finger. He's had two bouts of low grade fever recently -- the first time was a really minor cold and the second was a mild case of roseola. If the fever's not caused by teething, hopefully it's something minor and your little guy feels better soon.

  • I once had a Dr. tell me that it is a myth that kids get a fever when teething ....I promise that just before the teeth break though, Ashton would get a low grade one. Drool is another indicator.  I think we're going though the same thing as Ashton had a real low grade fever, loose stool and had a 40 min crying spell after his nap yesterday.
  • Definitely drooling a lot and sucking on his hands.  The day we really discovered it was clearly upset and crying for a little while.  He's normally not like that at all, no fussiness, but that day he was totally irritable.  He would also wake up from his nap crying, which he never did before.  About a week after the irritable day his first tooth popped up and the day it happened he was just a bit fussy (I'm surprised he wasn't in more pain?).

  • Sorry I can't help more - maybe it is.  or maybe it isn't?  I still can't say with any amount of certainty when J will have a tooth pop through and he just had #6 come through over the long weekend.

a co-worker's wife (who is a ped) told me the same thing.  She was also unconvinced J's nasal drip (really watery/distinguishable from snot which is more mucous-y) was teething related and said it's probably a coincidence too.  Whatever, it happens ever.single.time - not even sure how it came up b/c I generally don't like to talk to her (or him!!) about health stuff.

Yes, drooling a ton and chewing on EVERYTHING.

I really hope it's teething and not him getting sick :( poor baby

M is usually a really good napper/sleeper but yesterday was rough. He'd wake himself up all the time with the jerking. So weird.

  • Poor Baby, I hope he's doing better!

I had to write because I have to ask.. He pooped in the toilet?  7months old? Is that early?  I just started mine at 12months.  Am I late?  My boy took to it right away and asks to sit on the potty.  My girl is scared of it.  The potty chair instructions say 18months.. but they were so constipated I thought it would help.

Thanks in advance for your info, and hope he feels better.
