Our family is cursed and I don't know how much longer DH and I will survive.
Ellie is waking up every night now, and it is often more than once. DH or I have to go up and soothe her and rock her for a couple minutes - it doesn't take that long but doing it multiple times a night is annoying and she has a knack for starting to cry about 10 minutes after I get Noah back to bed after a feeding.
Speaking of whom, little Noah apparently thinks he needs to eat every 2-3 hours at night too! For the first couple months he was giving us 4 and 5 hour stretches but nowadays if we get 4 hours between feedings at night I consider it a miracle.
Between the two kids, I have had several nights of being awake for 2-3 hours straight. DH and I are totally exhausted! I don't remember Ellie waking this often as a BFing infant; maybe I just wiped it out of my memory. Anyway, just felt like complaining a little; I know it will end someday...I just hope we are still sane by then!
Re: Cursed by the sleep gods
Oh, honey, I hope you get some rest soon. It's so tough. And yes, you probably blocked out Ellie's sleeping patterns as an infant. Just a suggestion... maybe pick up Ferber's book. I know when we did sleep training with Sydney, there was a section of the book that delt with sleep issues in older children. It's worth a shot. I really liked him.
Sorry you are going through this.Hang in there, it will get better.
We are actually in somewhat similar situation. A couple of month ago Jason started having night terrors: screaming for half hour at a time practically every night. It got better, but now he wakes up when he needs to pee and then doesn't want to go back to sleep and comes to our bedroom. Erin hasn't slept for longer than 2 or 3 h stretches. H can't get up at night at all b/c he has to be well rested during the day (otherwise he can make a mistake and kill a patient or two). I was going completely insane. So I am ashamed but we hired a night-time nanny foor 5 nights a week...

I can totally relate to an infant who needs to nurse all night long! Or thinks he does. I know there are some guidelines with respect to weight and STTN, I can't remember but I think it was that when they've doubled their birth weight they can go 6 hours overnight without nursing? Anyway, hang in there! Sleep deprivation sucks!
Thanks everyone - we are bleary eyed but still managing so far. I'm so grateful that my DH is helping out instead of just covering his head with a pillow and leaving me to fend for myself! Last night Ellie only woke once, which felt like a major improvement - LOL! Noah is still waking very frequently though; I suppose we just have to endure until he grows out of it.
I just keep reminding myself that with kids, everything is a phase - I'm sure one day soon he will sleep for 6 hours straight and we will be shocked and thrilled.
