Question about teeth

First off, Evan already has 8 teeth (all four front, top and bottom) but seems to be teething. He is 10 months old, so I thought it would be too early for him to be getting any more teeth. What would be next? I can't see any more coming in.

Also, he still isn't really eating solids (only likes 2 kinds of purees, yogurt melts, and Mum mums) but we try to wash off his teeth with a damp wash cloth at night. Should we be actually brushing his teeth? And should we do it more than just at night?

TIA

Re: Question about teeth

  • DS is just over 9.5 months and he has his top two and bottom two teeth. I am pretty sure there are more coming in. He has been awful at night, burying his face into the matress and nonstop rubbing his face and head. During the day, he seems fine, except for the excessive amounts of drool. We took him to the pedi a few weeks ago and he said DS has a mouthful of teeth coming in, I can't see anything, but I'm not a doctor either. I have a friend whose daughter had almost all her teeth by 10 months, so I think every baby gets in their teeth at different times. As far as brushing, I bought Earths Best toothpaste and it came with a little rubberlike finger brush. DS really likes it when I "brush" his teeth. I think it helps his gums feel better.

  • one year molars come next.  As soon as both boys had teeth we started brushing them twice a day.  I just got a baby tooth brush and training tooth paste (No florid)

  • Teeth are very very individual, the "schedule" is very loose.  Cooper still only has 6 teeth.  I think the next teeth to come in are usually the first molars, at least according to the chart I have.

I don't really know what's recommended but we try and brush his teeth.  It's usually a fail, sometimes I manage to do it with a wash cloth.  Sometimes I just let him chew on the wash cloth and figure it's good enough. Recently he's started letting me brush a little if I let him brush mine, but then getting my toothbrush away from him before he brushes the floor, the cat, his hair, and the toilet with it is like fighting WWIII.

Our pedi said if you can't brush his teeth then try and get him to rinse his mouth out, i.e. drink water out of an open cup so it rinses over his teeth.

  • DD has two bottoms fully out, top right mostly out and I think the top left is trying to make it's way out (she's teething). We started brushing her teeth morning and night when she got the bottom two. Does she love it? No, but she lets me brush for 30-60 seconds so I feel better about it. She does like to suck and chew on the brush when we're done so I feel like she's getting a pretty good brushing. Eh, it's the best I can do.
  • Ally starting getting her molars at 10 months.  She's 13 months now and it's only halfway out for 2 molars and 2 are 100% out.  There's the front and back and middle of the molar (big ole tooth).

And at her 12 months appt, the Dr said she's getting all 4 canine (fangs) too.  Two of them officially came out, but the other two are extremely red.  So basically...at the age of 13 months, she has about 12 teeth waiting for 4 more to fully pop hopefully any time now so we can be done with teething hell.

  • We have 8 - 4 top, 4 bottom.  Cooper loves to have his teeth brushed.  He's always loved watching us brush ours and for a while I was holding him when I brushed my teeth in the morning before work, so he was crazy about it.  The real issue is us remembering to do it.

We bought a baby toothbrush and toothpaste set - I think the brand is Orajel.
