Trouble TTC

First Response Fertility Test

I'm not currently ttc (I have three boys under age three), but I have a question about fertility tests, and I'm guessing you gals probably know the most about this stuff. I bought a package of pregnancy tests (First Response) some time ago, and there was a free fertility test included, so just for kicks, I took the fertility test the other day on the 4th day of my period (the instructions said to do it on the third), and was shocked at the results! The test indicated that my FSH levels are elevated, which means I should be having difficulty getting pregnant right? I'm 29 years old... and it seems hubby and I need only to hold hands to become pregnant, so I'm having a little difficulty believing the test is accurate. Does anyone else have any experience with this test?

This is a really insensitive thing to say on a TROUBLE trying to conceive board. All of us on this board have been TTC for a long time (12 or more months) and are seeking treatment and you are basically rubbing it in our faces that you get KU so easily.

To answer your question those tests are crap. And if you have 3 kids and aren't TTC why do you care what your FSH is?

  • My apologies... I didn't mean to be insensitive. I took the test on lark just because I happened to get a free one, and the results surprised me. I just thought this would be the place to ask about it. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Thank you for apologizing. Apology accepted.

  • I didn't think what you said was insensitive, and I definitely don't think you are trying to rub anything in.  I actually chuckled at "holding hands", LOL  Most women on the TTC board probably have never taken that test, so I understand why you came here to ask.

I took that test a few months ago, and got elevated results as well.  When I asked my NP about it she hadn't even heard of it.  Based on what I've read on here it's not a reliable source for any fertility issues.

If you are still concerned about it I would ask your doc about it.

  • Just my 2cents. I took one in November and it came back elevated. Just got my CD3 bloodwork and I have elevated FSH.  It's devastating to get this news.  I would tell anyone who is actually TTC and who has that test say elevated, go to the doc to run FSH/AMH tests, regardless of your age.  If you are taking the FRER test, follow the directions. It says to use on CD3. This is important. Also, you can't use it if you've been in BC for the past 60 days. If you get a line that is dark as or similar to the control line, that's bad. It's not like an OPK when you want it to be dark or as dark.

  • Thank you for your kind reply and for understanding my humor! Believe it or not, TTC wasn't easy for us at first... it took about a year to get pregnant with our first little guy. We thought having any more would be another long road, but turned out not to be the case. I wondered if elevated FSH played a role at that time, and this test made me wonder about it again. I don't have any burning desire to get pregnant again, but it'd still be nice to know what's going on! I guess I'll have the visit the good ol' Dr. to find out for sure. Thanks again!
