  • I was JUST about to message you that...I think I tried to make the pics a little smaller since this is my first time to add a pic.  DH and I call that smile effect that you are talking about "bunny therapy" =)

  • Thanks gals!  It's so strange that we ended up with rabbits as pets, but we're happy to be bunny parents.  Rupert is the first one with short ears, and Dunkin is the second one, with floppy ears.  We got her first, but poor Rupert was in the pet store in a cage all by himself for 6 months.  I couldn't stand it anymore, seeing him everytime I neede supplies, so I finally one day asked the pet store if I could take him off their hands.  They were so excited and called even the stockroom people in the back, announcing, "someone's acutally buying the rabbit!"  They even gave me a discount.  He was pricier because the Vet there had taken away his boy parts, but this is a good thing since Dunkn is a girl.  Two rabbits is plenty! =)

    Yes to Bunny Therapy!

They're both equally cute. I think Rupert's story is so sweet...I'm glad you got him...he deserved a good home :)

Thank you!  Oh, they adore each other.  Rupert is definitely Dunkin's other half.  She even became a "better trained" rabbit after Rupert joined the family.  They have not once fought, and we've had Dunkin for 5 years and Rupert for about 4-4 1/2.

  • I am totally butting in here but I just think they are so so cute. We recently had a terrible experience with a dog and are wanting a new pet. No more dogs for us. I considered a rabit before but was worried that they might bite and it may hurt ALOT. So I guess what I am asking is are they friendly? Would they be like 4 year old child friendly? Thanks in advance.

Because of the great "Snow"vember of 2015, my medicated cycle was cancelled.  However, we were blessed with our little rainbow baby due on 8/14/15!  Baby J had other plans and decided to make his grand ole entrance on 7/4/2015!

Surprise!  Our little girl entered this world on 12/8/2016 after her eviction notice was long past due.  Our little turkey baby turned into a snow baby!

I had quite a few bunnies growing up and I don't ever remember being bitten by one. I do remember that they like to chew on every thing! Once my bunny ate the corner of my mom's handmade tablecloth...she was PISSED.

I found a bunny about a year ago hopping along our front yard. He was thin and really dirty :(  I found him a good home with a friend who has a 4yr old and a 6 yr old. That bunny is living the good life and the kids LOVE him. I think a rabbit would make a great pet. Maybe HadleyS can give you more insight about behavior and the cost to maintain them since I don't remember any of that.

No way, you are not butting in...besides, now I get the chance to tell you congrats on your GREEN LIGHT! =).  About the biting, it has only happened if we made them really mad (like when we are trying to get them out from under a piece of furniture and back to their cage and they don't want to).  It doesn't really hurt that bad, and doesn't break the skin.  I had rabbits growing up though, and one was in fact a biter that would break skin.  Oddly, neither of our rabbits likes to be held, they act more like cats, lay around and want to you to pet them and feed them.  Again, not the case when I was a kid....we held our rabbit all the time and he hopped up on the couch and sat in our laps forever.  They are fun, but they can chew on baseboard, WILL chew on cords behind entertainment systems and can get back there no matter how tight the space is!  It's also difficult to find a "rabbit sitter" when we want to go out of town, but this is mainly because we worry about them getting loose and the sitter not being able to get them back in the cage.  If you want to get a bunny, your best bet is to hold the bunny a lot and set him in your lap so he gets acustomed to it early on, and that will make things easier later when he's a rabbit.  Not a bad pet for a four year old (but really it's always your pet because she will only be able to hold, pet, and feed the bunny), but definitely a commitment, rabbits can and should live to be 8 years old, and I knew of a 13 yr old rabbit.  Two rabbits are better than one (once we got two, our first was better litter trained and when we caged them together they both ate better), and YES, they are litter trained!  They still make "mistakes" here and there, but it's easy to clean up.  Now, I am sure that is MORE than anyone ever wanted to know about rabbits!Stick out tongue

That's cool that you got to have them growing up. My mom wouldn't let me have anything. I was in High School before we even got a dog. But she was a single mom to 3 of us so maybe that is what it was. How sweet of you to find it a good home. I don't know if I would have been able to give it away. I have attachment issues for sure! LOL. Thanks for all the good info and again CONGRATS on getting to start TTC again!

Aw thanks for the congrats. I am glad the green light is here but so nervous at the same time. So maybe getting a new bunny can help be distracting. LOL. Thank you for all the info. It sounds like they are pretty low maintenace. How often are they in a cage? Are they as easy to litter train as cats? I am glad to know that even if the do bite they don't like remove a finger! LOL. Their teeth are just so long. We have had gerbils and hampsters and their little teeth really do hurt. Did you get both of yours from a pet store of just the one? Wow okay so I feel like I totally hijacked this posting. I have way more questions than I thought! Thanks for the info
