Morning Sickness is AWFUL!

Normal 0

Hi Ladies! I'm new to the site and so thankful to have stumbled upon such a wonderful support group.

I am currently 5 weeks and 6 days preggers, and just started having unbearable morning sickness yesterday. I am a teacher, and I can't afford to miss so many days of school or leave my kids unattended while I sit in the bathroom for hours on end. I am home sick today.

I called up my OB (who I haven't seen yet.) I was scheduled for my first appt. at 9 weeks. They are having me come in today, and I already want to ask for a prescription of Zofran. Am I ridiculous? What do you think this appt. will consist of?

Re: Morning Sickness is AWFUL!

  • No, it's not ridiculous. At my first appointment with my last pregnancy, they asked if my m/s was so bad that I needed a prescription. I said no... but with this pregnancy, I may say yes, I feel awful! I'm in the same spot, I'm a teacher, and I can not take unnecessary days relating to the pregnancy, so I'm sucking it up and staying close to the trash can... haha! With ginger ale and saltines in hand of course!

  • That's not ridiculous at all!  Especially as a teacher where you can't be eating all the time or leaving to be sick all the time.

  • I don't think it's ridiculous at all.  You're sick and there's something that will make you feel better.  No brainer to me!

At my first appt the MW just suggested ginger ale and ginger candy if I felt sick but when I met with the OB on Friday (I was 7w3d) she asked if I had any nausea and when I said yes she gave me a script for zofran without batting an eye.

Why be miserable when you don't have to be?  I figure there are so many other things going on that make us feel like crap, at least with nausea there's something they can do to help.

  • Yes, it is awful. My nausea was so bad, but I started taking vitamin b6 yesterday and I swear it has improved so much in 24 hours. I feel a lot better!

  • I am also a teacher and spent the afternoon with my ginger ale and saltines close by. I made it through the morning fine but once lunch started and I could smell all the different foods it went downhill from there. About 2 I felt like I hit a brick wall. Hoping tomorrow will be better. I don't see the doctor for 2 more weeks and if I still feel this way I will be asking for some help!!! Hang in there!
  • im seeing a midwife, havent even had my first appt with her.  I actually called the office for her backup doctor, who i plan to see at least once during my pregnancy.  He actually just called in a script of zofran for me, even though he didn't even see me yet.
