? about cows milk and solids

I apologize in advance for this dumb question, but if LO isn't suppose to drink cows milk until 12 months why can they eat yogurt and cheese now?

  • So glad you asked, I was wondering the same thing!

  • Lactose is already broken down with the culturing of the yogurt or cheese
and milk proteins are either removed or limited thus it is typically easier
    to digest.

Also, the main reason for holding off milk until 1 year is because of the nutrients in formula and breast milk, not really because of milk being bad.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • The way my pedi explained it, it's not so much that they *can't* have whole cow milk (aside from the lactose issue pp mentioned), it's that you want them to get the benefits of BM/formula until they're a year old. But giving yogurt/cheese is just like offering any other solid food -- solids are great, but you still want the majority of nutrients coming from BM/formula.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

Yep...this is what I have read/been told, too.
Brought to you by IVF, ICSI, limited fert, and oocyte cryopreservation.
    Because we're fancy like that.

  • krissy and mupet.fan said it, from what I've been told - the culturing of other dairy products, plus the benefits of breastmilk/ formula.
