Trouble TTC

Ladies taking clomid...

How many follicles do you produce while taking clomid?

Last cycle I only produce 1 on 50mg of clomid. I guess I was under the impression that I would have more than one. Would you ask your doctor to up your clomid dose to try to stimulate more follicles?

Re: Ladies taking clomid...

  • I think 2 good, mature follies is ideal for a Clomid cycle. You might consider going up to 100 mg if you had just one on 50 mg.
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs
    IVF #1 = BFN
    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d
Long-shot Clomid/Prednisone cycle before next IVF = BFP, our beautiful, healthy girl born 6/26/13!

  • I had two mature and one close to mature at d12 on 100 mg Clomid. I didn't have any trouble ovulating on my own though. Like blue said, I think 2 is the goal (unless you don't ovulate on your own--then the goal is probably just to get you to ovulate!). More than 3 and they will usually cancel the cycle due to risk of HOM.

  • I had 1 on 50mg & 2 on 100mg. I would definitely bring up a dosage change next time you talk to them

  • Thanks ladies! I had 3 or 4 smaller follies but only one 1 mature. When I call on CD1 I will ask the nurse about going up to 100 mg.

  • at 50 mg of Clomid I had 2 follies, a 27mm and a 20. Plus a bunch of smaller ones.

  • I had 5-6 follies to start on the inital ultrasound, but only 2 matured 5 days later. And hopefully they both released!

I know that they are also afraid to over-stimulate, initiall he said that if all my follies developed that I wouldn't be able to do IUI. I think they are too worried about multiple if you have more than 3 follies, so it is a balancing game. Certainly if you only have 1, you should at least discuss it with them about increasing the clomid.
