Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Napping situation - did this happen to you?

From about 4 months until last week my son was the most incredible napper.  He would make it obvious when he was tired and would pass out the second we put him in his crib.  Over the last few weeks he has been napping at least a few hours less during the day.  The problem with this is I can tell he needs more sleep than he's getting.  He will sit rubbing his eyes but refuse to nap for more than 30-45 minutes.  He used to take 3 naps a day that totaled 5-6 hours.  I have heard this can be a phase because he's more aware and doesn't want to miss anything.  Did your LO's start napping more again at some point?  I know around 6 months they start to nap less but I know he's not getting as much sleep during the day as he needs.

  • I have only noticed a drop in nap times when he was either teething or just way over tired. I would try for half an hour or so, but the minute I would walk away he would scream. I suppose we just have to bare through it. Once his teeth broke through or I got him back on a good schedule (more importantly, a good place to sleep instead of being on the road all the time) he eventually would nap again. Good luck.

  • Since DS started crawling and pulling himself up on things, especally the crib, his naps and night sleep have gotten shorter and has more wakings at night.  He would rather keep practicing his new skill than sleep.
