Pre-Admit Clinic/Tour

Did you take your DH with you for this?  I just booked mine for the 27th at 10am...well, more like they called me and told me when my appointment was, I didn't really have a choice.

Just wondering if it is worth DH taking the morning off of work just to watch me fill out forms and tour a couple of hospital rooms.  Pretty sure that as long as I know where to go and what to do, then I can just instruct him on it instead of him losing 1/2 a days pay?

What is everyone else doing?

Re: Pre-Admit Clinic/Tour

  • My husband went with me, but he really wanted to go, so it wasn't a question.

  • My DH did go with me on the tour, which was only a half hour. But our tour was on a Saturday afternoon in which he did not have to work.  But if he had to take a 1/2 without pay, I would probably have taken the tour myself.  Is there any way you can reschedule the tour so that DH can go with you?

  • This is totally up to you. I would go myself. But don't have him skip out if you really want him to go or he wants to go.

I never went on any tours and filled out any paperwork before delivery day so it really isn't a big deal to me. But if you don't mind going on your own, then go for it.

  • It's up to you.  Our was at 8pm in the evening, so DH went with.  It's probably not worth it really to have him take work off for it.

Just be sure you ask any questions he might have, take some notes, and maybe a few photos if he doesn't go.

  • I wouldn't worry about it, ours was at night so he went, but it wasn't anything earth shattering. One of the dad's did faint while we were there so that was totally worth it! Haha, really you can probably make him a little map with the waiting area, vending machines, nurses station, and cafeteria labeled and he will be good. J/k, really I am sure he can read and follow signs and (gasp) ask directions if he gets a little lost.
  • I had H come with me since it's a hospital I do not know very well.  It turned out to be a good thing since it was a little tricky finding the parking lot.  Also they pointed out where dads could go to get the discounted parking tickets.

  • MH came with but he was also not at work since they did the tour on a weekend. I personally wouldn't have had him take off of work for it though to lose pay or use PTO. I am sure the nurses will instruct him where to go or what to do as well, not everyone who goes into L&D has seen it before.

  • We did our tour during the birthing class but I think it's info that really 1 person can relay to the other.  We went in to the pre-admit appt together after DH got off work, but again nothing earth-shattering.  I'd say it's not really worth him losing a 1/2 days pay.

  • My husband wanted to go and he was really glad he did.  I think it made him a lot more comfortable about everything that is coming.  But we were able to take the tour on the weekend so he didn't have to miss work for it.

  • If I was getting the tour, he'd go with me.

  • Ours was at the end of our prenatal/birth classes so he was there.  It was actually on a Saturday so he didnt have to take off work but he would have had it been during the week.  He goes to EVERY Dr.'s appt with me so I know he would have taken off work for the tour.
