So at my PP check up, my OB checked my thyroid (I have been hypothyroid for 12 years and my dose had stayed the same except during pg). The dose remained the same as when I was discharged after I had LO (however, the dose was lower than what I was previously one before I was pg).
I know that you are supposed to lose hair - it is normal due to hormones getting back to normal, etc., but at what point does your hair stop falling out? I seem to be losing alot lately. I think my thyroid is out of whack again. I can't lose weight - no matter how my diet is, I only lost around 10 pounds of pg weight, and now my hair is falling out and my skin is still very dry. ( I also have low milk supply and my OB said that my levels are right, but if my thyroid is the problem for my low milk supply then shouldn't my supply be fine if my levels are in the "normal" range?)
I'm thinking that it is time to see my endo for this to see if my levels are off again. WWYD? Anyone else have to go more than once after your PP check up to make sure your levels are correct? Anyone else try Cytomel for their T3 levels? I was going to go on this when I found out I was pg and my OB said I didn't need to take it - however, I may need to now.
Re: XP: Hypothyroidism and hair falling out
Different doctors treat hypothyroidism differently - some go strictly off the numbers, others take symptoms into account. Mine has never been bad enough to require treatment, but when I wanted to TTC, my dr. wanted to get my TSH from ~5 to <2.5, so I went on medication. I feel so much better - and that's not a normal thing for a pg lady to say.
I've already decided I want to stay on my medication when I'm not pregnant. I feel differently at 2 than I did at 5 - I don't think 5 is "normal" for my body.
In other words, if you think you'd benefit from a higher dose and your OB won't do it, see your endo or PCP.
