Medical Question, Please help. (kinda gross TMI)

I have been having really bad constipation and haven't had a proper BM in MONTHS. I have been trying FiberOne bars and using BeneFiber and stool softeners I was prescribed by my OB but I'm still not passing as much waste or as frequently as I should. I finally got so sick of how uncomfortable I am and took 2 exlax tablets yesterday. I was cramping all night long but I had a good sized BM. I'm still having some cramping the next day, is that normal? When will it go away? Also I'm nervous that it wasn't good for the baby.

  • That stuff can dehydrate you so be careful.

I did it once and had awful cramps for over 24 hours. Never again.

  • Call your doctor...they will be able to tell you what to do.  Is the cramping bowel cramps? (don't answer, just know what kind of cramping when they ask)  It may be your prenatal that is backing you up (too much iron), so talk to her about taking one with out iron.  Good luck!

  • I've found that eating 2 fuji apples(my fav's i don't think it really matters) a day and drinking at least 100 oz of water a day have kept things regular for me.  If i skip a day on apples, things start to back up.

I also ws trying the fiber one bars, and other "natural softeners" nothing else worked for me.  Give it a shot.

  • The one and only time I used those things I was in cold sweats on the bathroom floor for almsot an entire day.

Push water, then more water, then more water!!

When you use the fiber one bars/fiber supplements do you drink a lot of water? Fiber needs a lot water to work.
Also try some more natural forms of fiber: bananas, apples, oatmeal, spinach. Those *clean me out* if I eat a lot of them.

    Good Luck!

  • Yea, I definitely won't be using it again, too uncomfortable. I like the apples idea, when I googled about it someone else had said apple juice helped her. And I have been trying to drink more water but after drinking nothing but water for the past 5 months I'm craving flavor, but crystal light packets just dry out my mouth.

I swear I never complained this much before I got pregnant.

be careful of the apple juice with too much sugar, it won't add to the problem, but it won't help either. Simply Apple is really good and a very natural form of the juice!

    Good Lucj!

  • I suffered form constipation early on and it was not fun.  I now eat a bowl of raisin bran for breakfast and a small glass of apple juice and things are a lot better!

  • Water water water. Also, be careful with anything that will make your bowels crap or contract, they can start to trigger uterine contractions from what I understand.

  • I've always had this problem but now its worse!

I eat an apple and as much fruit as possbile. everyday.

I eat a prune every other day

I drink a ton of water

If all else fails i eat a huge plate of stirfry veggies or a can of peas and corn and maybe some all bean chili- never fails
