It's coke for the most part, otherwise it's brand-specific. No one around here calls it soda or pop.
This. I grew up in Louisiana. We call EVERYTHING coke. Unless we're ordering from a restaurant, we call any "soda" Coke. DH calls it pop because he's from Ohio. It's a northern thing I've noticed.

I'm in Massachusetts. Everyone I know in Mass, Rhode Island & New Hampshire call it soda. My cousins in Tennessee call it pop. I always figured it was the other way around.
Calling a pizza a 'pie' and soda 'pop' has always been a Yankee thing. Dang yanks... lol
'Pie' for 'pizza' is a NJ thing mostly though, right?
OH YEAH IT IS! lol my boyfriend is from NJ. we fight about these things all the time. He says he wants a pie... i say chocolate, peanut peanut butter, apple? and he's like NO pizza duh.
A few others we disagree on (besides the pop v. soda) : Buggys and Shopping Carts Suckers and Lollipops Laundry and Wash Subs and Hoagies
I switch back and forth between the two, but most everyone around here calls it "pop". I get funny looks if I say soda too much.
What really kills me is the difference in "iced tea" between various regions. I worked at Chili's briefly, and while I was training, the girl who was training me informed a man at a table that our iced tea was "american"... I thought I was going to die it was so hilarious! I had to hold back my giggles. She only meant that it was unsweetened iced tea - the real stuff - because it's WAY more common that we would have sweetened, artificially flavored iced tea like Nestea or Brisk, and that's what you would generally get if you asked for it in a restaurant, thus the need to specify.
When I was visiting my best friend in NY once, my boyfriend at the time came with me and we went out to a restaurant for dinner one night. He asked for tea so the waiter asked him if he'd like hot tea or sweet tea (iced tea) - he got SO CONFUSED that he was being asked a question at all, because to just say "tea" is generally assumed (here) that you mean hot tea. Really not a very bright guy and he made it out like he was being made to look stupid (jerk) but that poor waiter didn't understand what was so confusing about his question!

Things to avoid during pregnancy: Eye contact with cats. Cats will suck the burgeoning life right out of you, using their infamous feline mind-powers. Avert your eyes, and move along.
FACT: 1 in 10 people are said to be a carrier of Listeria. Therefore you should avoid all shopping malls, grocery stores and busy street corners for the duration of your pregnancy. Or microwave anyone you contact until steaming, just to be safe.
I think it varies by state, but also by area's within the state. I grew up in my area calling it pop. I moved an hour away and here they all call it soda.
around here if you ask for tea the waiter will ask you sweet or unsweet... growing up in texas I prefer sweet lemon tea...and sun tea is the absolute best...oh how i wish it were summer

Re: What do you call it?
Technically I call it Diet Coke, because that`s the only pop I drink.

I voted pop btw.
