I'm curious if anyone has talked to their OB about how long they will allow you to go over your due date should the situation arise? I want to have this conversation with my OB at this week's appt. I'm just wondering if they would induce at 40 wks or wait 1 wk, 2 wks, etc?
Re: Has anyone had the talk with their OB about going past due date?
I was born three days shy of a month late (inductions weren't taking, my mom was adamant that she not have a c/s as long as I seemed ok) so I am VERY concerned that I will have a long overdue pregnancy as well.
I know many moms on here are big advocates of waiting until week 42 as long as things are ok, but we have agreed that I will have a checkup at exactly 41 weeks. If the NST comes back ok, I will go home, get washed up, and check in to do Cervadil overnight and possibly pitocin in the morning. If it doesn't go well, I will march myself downstairs for an induction immediately. My mother's birth with me was very very difficult, and I am hoping to avoid it. Plus, it is also kind of nice to know that even though his due date is the 17th, the 25th (maybe 26th depending on how things go) is the absolute longest I have to wait until I meet him.
My doc lets you go to 42w - he will schedule an induction at your 41w appt - but makes you come in for NSTs once you've gone to your due date. He's also open to discussing an earlier induction once you've hit your due date.
I had an emergency c-sec w/ DS so this time around I'm not allowed to go past 41w.

I need to talk to my doctor about this.... but keep getting distracted with other questions. Next appointment for sure.
My mom keeps telling me how my sister was almost a month late. To me it seems more likely that her due date was miscalculated... especially since it was her third baby and my brother and I were both born close to our due dates. But who knows.
I am allowed to go a few days past, I have gestational diabetes, but with this pregnancy I am on so little insulin that I can go over a few days- last time I was on a lot of insulin so I have told if I didn't go by my due date then I was going to be induced.
I was induced early due to high blood pressure one day though.
This.
Also, my doctor said that she will consider going a few days earlier.
I just talked to my doctor about this today. She said that next week (at my 38-week appointment) we could schedule an induction if we wanted. I'll decline that unless something changes drastically in the next week (or if it becomes medically necessary, obviously.)
She said she won't let me go more than 1 week past my due date.
Because a pregnancy can go 42 weeks, this is not too long. The due date is just an estimate, and they allow for 2 weeks on either side. My son was born 15 days past his due date and there were no problems. I am sorry there were with your sister but don't assume that all babies born after 40 weeks are going to be sick or have problems.
