Chocolate covered chips?

Has anyone ever eaten, or made them?  Chocolate covered ridged potato chips?  My DH said his grandma sent him some b/c he loves them, but I didn't believe other ppl ate them until I just saw it on Unwrapped.  I was gonna make him some myself, I'm thinking it can't really be that hard... melt some chocolate and dip the chip in.  Anyway I was just wondering if anyone on here has ever indulged in such a thing??  I get the concept of it, salty and sweet (like a chocolate covered pretzel) but DH is the only one I've known that eat them.

  • That sounds amazing.  I'd totally eat that.  I lived in Spain when I was in college, and one of the snacks I couldn't get enough of was corn nuts covered in dark chocolate.  I thought it sounded gross, but I tried it on a whim.  Best. Snack. Ever.  I'd love to go back to Spain for many reasons, and that would definitely be one of them.

  • There's this place in Grand Forks, ND that makes them and they are most FANTASTIC thing ever.  I love them so much!!  They are also way, way addicting.  It's the perfect mix of salty and sweet.

You wouldn't have been watching Unwrapped were you?  I saw those and started whining to DH about how much I want them right now.

  • I love them. I made some over xmas and even made the chips myself. I've only found the in candy/sweets shops a couple of times and usually have to make my own

  • There's an old fashioned candy store in my town that makes them.  I've never tried one but they are very popular.  I guess it would be kinda like a chocolate covered pretzel.

  • The place in ND, Widmans... Soooo good! I am from Grand Forks, and I grew up eating them. Now that I live in Atlanta, my Dad sends me and my son a box for Christmas every year. They are already gone... I am telling you they are sooo good! But, The chip makes the treat. They have got to be thick cut potato chips. If they are too thin, then they do not have the salty crunchy flavor to them. We put ours in the freezer and eat them frozen.... to die for! I have had others at candy stores, but none compare to Widmann's.
  • oohhh so yummy! I made some for a party once and they turned out great. I got ghiradelli milk chocolate chips and melted them a little at a time in a glass bowl over a pot of simmering water to keep it smooth, then dip in the ruffles one at a time and put them on wax paper in the freezer till the chocolate hardens. delish!!!
