Postpartum Depression

PPD 10 months after?

I ask this in all seriousness.  I feel like I'm in a bad dream.  I look around and I just think, "wow, this sucks".  I don't really know what I'm supposed to do about it either.  I have no health insurance and can't afford to go talk to someone.  Please, any advice would be appreciated!

Re: PPD 10 months after?

  • PPD can kick in any time after birth.  Try to make an appointment somehow to get on meds.  My celexa is only $10 a month without insurance.  Save up the money to go as soon as possible.  Or perhaps go to an ER?  Also, most states have free insurance programs.  Check into that as well.  If all else fails, perhaps St Johns Wort and a friends shoulder to cry on?

  • You can def still get it up to a year after birth. I am also on Celexa as well and it makes me tired but it worked right away and besides being tired I have no side effects. Good luck......
  • Yes, my PPD didn't really kick in until 6 months post-partum, which I've heard is very common. Has anything changed recently? Like weaning? Or a shift in routine? In some ways I think the 2nd 6 months after baby is born is harder than the first 6 months, when there is more support. People kind of forget about you after a while. If you're working out of the home, people expect more of you now that you're not "post-partum", and if you're a SAHM, isolation can kick your butt.

Also, Prozac has a very inexpensive generic version that a general practitioner could prescribe.

     Good luck!
