Postpartum Depression

Is this PPD?

Sorry no paragraphs... Posted on my phone. I have not felt like myself lately. My DS is 4 months old and I am absolutely in love with him. But I have found that nothing else matters. I get frustrated really easily. Although my DH is a wonderful husband and father, I find myself snapping at him daily, sometimes several times a day. I know I shouldn't do it and if I ask him to do something for me he always does it, but yet I can't stop snapping at him. We are having a really rough time with my step-daughter right now. We have not seen her in almost 3 months and are getting ready to take her mother to court, so I know that is part of the problem. I also have just been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and started medication for it. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety in 2004 and took lexapro for about 6 months but it made me so tired I couldn't function so I stopped taking it. I really haven't had any problems with depression since then. Is this PPD? I'm not really sure it's anything I just know I don't feel like myself. TIA for any help.

Re: Is this PPD?

  • Your sympotms sound exactly like mine.  I would be crabby all the time for no reason.  My DH is wonderful and supportive too, but even the most innocent comment or action by him would really irritate me.  This went on for me for a long time because I didn't recognize it as depression.  Like you I didn't have the negative feelings toward my child that others experience.  I also obsessed about negative thoughts and couldn't get them out of my mind.  Try talking to your doctor, especially since you're already prone to depression.  I started on an antidepressant recently. and it has really helped.  Good luck!

  • Im not a doctor but it seems like you have a lot on your plate and your overwhelmed. You could def be depressed but I dont think its linked to your baby. Still see your doc and see what they say. Maybe try another med this time. GL
