Cloth Diapering

I miss dryer sheets!!

Hi ladies,

First post here but I am looking forward to chatting with you all more often!

We are CDing and in turn, had to give up dryer sheets and all other fabric softners. The static is KILLING me!!

Are you all doing anything for the static in your clothes, sheets, towels, etc? It is driving me CRAZY!!

  • I miss them too.  :(  We use 6 dryer balls and just dry on low heat.  That helps most of the time but for synthetic materials, we still get bad static.  My poor fur babies hate getting in and out of their beds these days b/c the covers come out of the dryer so full of static.

  • It's killing me too. I tried vinegar yesterday in my wash, but not sure if it has worked yet.

  • Ummm... I do use dryer sheets.  Not on my cloth diapers, of course, but in the rest of the loads.  Are we not supposed to because of possible build-up in the dryer?  I do also have two dryer balls that stay in there all the time.

  • Dryer balls, trying to use as many natural fibers as possible, and limiting drying time.
  • I'm allergic to fabric softener and dryer sheets so I have never used them.  Anything that is made out of a synthetic fabric (polar fleece, yoga wear, stretchy shirts, etc.) I always just take out of the washer and hang them to dry in my closet or on my shower rod. Since the rest of the laundry is cotton there is no static problem.  Since they are synthetic, they only take a few hours to dry.

This is also better for your clothes because often synthetics are stretchy.  By not putting them in the dryer,  they will maintain their shape and stretch.

  • Try cutting your drying time by several minutes. A lot of static is caused by over drying.

Yes, you do need to worry about the build-up. I was told to run a load of towels through the dryer first to clear out the residue in the beginning and to discontinue use altogether.  I sure do miss them!

Thanks ladies! It would take too long to not dry synthetic diapers. We don't have enough to last us that long, but I will definately stop drying things I can. I use 2 dryer balls but will get some more going in there and cut the time! I also use vinegar, but i think that is to make the clothes softer, not help with static.
