Well, I haven't posted too often but I knew you women would have some great words of advice and encouragement so here I am.
I had my first RE appointment and am really feeling a bit lost. The doctor was great and answered all my questions and gave me a lot of insight in what may be going on. I have a history of hypothyroidism controlled by synthroid, endo & cervical dysplasia that was fixed by a LEEP procedure so my cervix is now "odd shaped" (as my OB/GYN tells me). The RE thinks my egg reserve may be low due to my short luteal phases (10 days avg.) and short cycles (24-26 days avg.). I brought her all my charts and she says some cycles are obviously ovulatory and some appear to be annovulatory. So needless to say she wants me to do a ton of tests....blood work, HSG, ultrasounds, post coital..... which I think is great. It would be nice to know what's working, what's not and what's fixable. Then she talked about my choices of Clomid, Ovulation injection cylces, or IVF. She gave me a 15% chance on clomid, 35% chance on OI, and 70% chance for IVF.
Talk about information overload while being there! My insurance doens't cover anything at all so the financial aspect of it is a huge factor in deciding what to do. Obviously I need to do the testing first before worrying about the procedures. Now that I'm sitting at home with all the paperwork and the price list of everything I feel completely overwhelmed and lost, so here are my questions for you all:
Which tests did you do? Were there tests that you decided to hold off on doing to see what results came in from the first tests you did? (My doctor does a package deal of all the tests for $2000 and the blood work for $1400- but you can also pay as you go for each test separately though that costs more in the end). How do you handle paying out of pocket? Getting a loan is something DH and I are looking into for the costs of it all. Basically, tell me your story for this part of our fertility journey. I think I'll wait to stress (more than I all ready am) about the procedures when we get to that point. All of this information is so new to me right now, so in a few days or weeks I'll hopefully be able to process it all and not stress out too much about it.
Thanks!
