Just a quick and probably stupid question...
How did your birth experience(s) compare to those of your mom? I've heard that some aspects of pregnancy and labor are genetic, but nobody gives specifics.
The reason I ask is because my mom almost always had her babies a week or two before her due date and had *very* precipitous labors, which kinda worries me.
Re: For those of you who've had your LOs
I haven't had my second DS yet...but when I had my first DS 2.5 years ago he was only 1 day late where as my sister and I were both close to 2 weeks late. I had a terrible delivery with DS1 and alot of complications where with me my mom said it wasn't bad at all but she said with my sister it was a little more complicated since she was induced and the cord was wrapped around my sisters neck.
All pregnancies and deliveries are different and there is no telling what yours will be like.
Well, my mother had me 10 days early and my sister 10 days late, DS came the day after my due date so basically right on time. My mom was in labor with me for 31 hours and I was a vaginal delivery and my sister was a C-section because her cord was in a knot.
Labor went pretty fast and mostly easy with DS until he went into major distress and I needed a C-section. His cord was wrapped twice around his neck. DH was a section because his cord was wrapped around his neck too.
I have no idea if that kind of thing has to do with genetics, I suppose it's possible.
My moms labor would stall at 4 cm for a while and then she would go from 4-10 in an hour. It didn't happen to me with #1 because I had an epi and pitocin, but when I went naturally with #2 my labor was identical to the way hers went.
In terms of when she delivered - some of us were early and some were late. Same with me. I don't think genetics really plays a role in that.
I am not sure if you can compare how close to due dates our kids came vs. our parents. Technology was a little different 20+ years ago and they didn't do all of the U/S to check growth and due dates.
I was told if you have a sister your L&D may be more like your sister's than your mother's....
I don't have a sister so I have nothing to compare to.... darn.
i havent had my baby yet but all the women in my family get stuck at 3 or 4cm for a long time then in ONE contraction go from 4 to 10 then in two instant uncontrolable pushes....hello baby
