I'm sure this is an offensive question to you girls
We are TTC and I am just doing some initial research on CDs. But I don't understand the point in spending extra $$ on fitteds in cute prints. Don't they just get covered up by a cover?
That's kinda my feeling towards any cute print diaper, they get covered up by clothes. I know some people really like all the cute prints and it's one of the reason they are cloth diapering, but it's totally not worth the money to me.
Despite getting covered they work well. I have some plain solid colored fitteds by little lions that cost me $6 each on sale, but they aren't as absorbent as my piddle poddles or sun seedlings that happen to have cute prints. I think it happens that many of the fitteds made out of more absorbent materials also have cute prints. Also, many of the more expensive fitteds are hand-made, so you are paying more directly for the labor of buying the materials, cutting the materials, and sewing them.
I've seen the same question asked, and it sounds like while yes, they'll get covered by cloths and covers while out, many people let their LO run around in just the diaper (no cover) and Baby Legs or something like that while at home.
This. Most babies can go for up to 2 hours in a fitted without a cover.

My mom was also saying no cover = more airflow = happier baby butts.
She's funny to talk to about CDing - she had her first kids in the 70s when disposable diapers sucked and were expensive, so she cloth diapered despite the inconvenience of nothing but flats and really poor laundry appliances.
Fitteds are typically more expensive because they are made from natural fibers. They are more breathable and a lot if times dd goes with out a cover. Fitteds actually fit dd better than pockets or aios, so we have less leak issues. Personally, the cute prints are just a bonus! I'm not one to $50 on a cute printed diaper that my kid is going to poop in!

DD often goes coverless when wearing fitteds. I like that they're breathable, have great absorbancy, and fit her well. They are all I can trust for overnight. She can wear some of them for 12+ hours without even soaking them all the way through. She wears pockets at daycare and when we go out. I guess I just like variety.
I guess the same could be said about women's underwear...it just gets covered up by clothes, right? (Well, maybe not all of them, but you get my point
Fitted are more expensive because of the materials not because of the prints. The prints are just a plus. dd goes coverless around the house a lot. Think of it like pretty underwear for you. Its covered, but you know its there and it makes you happy. If there were 2 identical pairs of underwear except one plain and one pretty print, I would choose the print.
