Measuring a week behind - what do you think?

I had another u/s last week (I was finally released to "regular" OB appts so this was the 1st one). Everything looked great & baby had a heart rate of 171 but I was measuring exactly 1 week behind. I charted and was using CBEFM so I know when I ovulated so I don't understand how this is possible which of course makes me think the worst & that is something is wrong.

My previous u/s I was also about 1 week behind also so it looks like the baby is growing, I just don't understand the week behind thing. I go in for another u/s in 1 1/2 weeks to confirm the new EDD. Any thoughts?? If the new date is right that means this is the longest 1st trimester!!

Re: Measuring a week behind - what do you think?

  • It's hard to say!  I had an IUI, so I know EXACTLY when I ovulated.  I have measured 3 days behind on all of my u/s's but the ob doesn't seem concerned.  I know a lot of times the babies will measure behind at first and then "catch up" later.  If it's been measuring behind, but has continued growing, I don't think you have too much to worry about!

  • Did your dr seem concerned? When I had my last ultrasound the dr took a bunch of different measurements from different angles and the baby measured any where from 6weeks to 7weeks and I was 6weeks 3 days. My ultrasound was transvaginal and the dr said it was normal for the baby to measure differently depending on the angle.

  • Mine measured behind about 4-5 days or so during my first 2 ultrasounds. At my NT scan last Thursday it measured right on target. Try not to stress, those machines aren't perfect. My doctor didn't seem concerned.

  • I'd be terrified too- I'm also pretty positive on my dates. BUT the fact that it's measuring consistently from u/s to u/s and the baby is growing at the right rate (plus a strong hb) makes me think everything is fine. As certain as charting seems, I'm sure wacky things can happen. Basically, I have no explanation, but I wouldn't be too worried.
  • Thanks ladies for the input! No, my dr is not concerned at all. My next u/s is partially to confirm the due date but also to look at a white area next to the baby - this u/s didn't show it but the previous 1 did. The radiologist reading the previous 1 thought it may have been another baby that never developed. So the dr just wants to recheck things.

I guess I'm just in another waiting game. I CAN'T wait for the 1st trimester to be over! And I refuse to change my ticker until after the next u/s ;)

  • I think that babies can measure a week behind or a week ahead and it not be a big deal.

At our first u/s at 7w1d, the baby measured right on target. (like you, I also know when I o'd.) Then, today, the baby measured 6 days ahead on our 11w1d ultrasound. But, the u/s tech said that it can fluctuate a lot and it was pretty normal.

  • I'm sure there are all kind of reasons this could be happening.  I am pretty sure I"m a normal ovulator but I am measuring a full week ahead.
