Hey ladies!
I don't post much but lurk daily! I have a question about DHA supplements. At my last appointment (10w4d) I asked my OB about DHA supplements. He said I didn't necessarily have to take one but if I wanted to, they certainly wouldn't hurt anything and could be good for overall health. He said OTC would be fine but that some may result in "fish burps." ![]()
Can anyone recommend one they like? I've heard good things about the Expecta Lipil ones- I think they are plant-based? I want to get some this week to start trying them (I would have started earlier but I had to take an antibiotic three times a day for a week and just couldn't handle adding another pill to my routine at the moment).
Thanks in advance!
Re: Anyone taking a DHA supplement?
This
I had the Expecta Lipil ones for a while. I didn't experience any nausea, or burps, with them. I had no problems with them!
I now take a prenatal vitamin with DHA supplement that comes with it.
I hope this helps you!
I take them. I have never had a fish burp. I take the Target brand. It is the SMALL pill one, not the big pill one. It is the generic of Expecta. The big pill one did give me fish burps.

My NP told me at my 8 wk appt. that I should start taking DHA. I asked her if fish oil was OK and she said the same thing about the "fish burps". I took a few and just couldn't handle the fish taste. I did some research and found out that Krill Oil is actually a better source than regular fish oil. It smells slightly fishy, but there is absolutely no after taste! I've been taking it for over 2 weeks with no problems.
I also have to say that I LOVE YOUR CORGI! My family used to breed/raise them to get money for college. We had two red/white females, one red/white male and one tricolor female. After years of not having Corgis, my mom just bought one last summer and I make all kinds of excuses to go visit him. Love!
This.
Ladies, thanks for all of your suggestions/input. I think I'll try the Expecta ones first and see how it goes. I got samples for a prescription prenatal with DHA but I still had a huge bottle of Target PNV I was trying to get through so my OB said it was fine to keep taking that.
Aww, thank you so much! He is my sweetheart! Corgis are so much fun so I'm glad your mom got another one you get to visit all the time.
Yeah, I wish I could eat fish. I know it would be the best source of omega-3s. I have never been able to eat fish or any kind of seafood. I just can't do it. I've tried all different kinds but I just don't like it at all.
That's what I take (and where I get them from). Sign up for Amazon Mom and get free 2 day shipping
Ditto. I actually haven't been able to find any rx or OTC prenatals that DON'T have DHA in them.

My PNV had DHA in them, they are the Target brand, the big pill. I have been taking them the entire time since I found out and I haven't had any burbs.
It could just be one of those things it is different for everyone.
