Delaying Solids

Is anyone else doing this? DS will be 6 months on the 27th and at his appointment at the end of this month I'm going to ask pedi if it's okay to wait for a few moths before introducing solids. DS is gaining weight (he's 18 1/2 pounds!) sleeping well and acting full, so I don't know that he needs them yet. Is anyone else waiting?

Re: Delaying Solids

  • Nope, we just started this week with oatmeal and sweet potatoes.  But, I would say go for it, if you feel he isn't ready.  I had the same thoughts as you about a month ago, but DS was really showing a lot of the signs.  He took to solids like a pro.  We still nurse before hand though, so he still gets the good stuff.

    GL with your decision.

  • We will be starting in about 2 weeks after DD's next pedi visit.  I feel like just this week she has started to show signs of being ready.  Really being interested in my food.  If you want to wait longer, I would discuss iron supplements with your doctor.  You might also want to ask on AP board, I think some over there have waited until 7 or 8 months.  I'm not positive though.

In the end though, you know your LO better than the pedi and if they aren't ready, they aren't ready.  Go with your gut.

  • I feel the same way.  However we will probably start after his 6 month visit just to get him use to using a spoon and the pedi said that if you don't use solids after 6 months then he would need vitamins and stuff like that.  So solids it will be...plus we are excited to start them then.  :)
