I am 39 weeks and I plan on working until I go into labor. This is my 1st baby so I am sure that I will go to my due date or later. I have not been with my company for a year yet so I am not going to get the standard 3 months off. I am only going to get about 6 or 8 weeks so I am working until DD comes. I just do not want to use up my time sitting at home waiting instead of with her when she arrives. Just wanted to see if anyone else is working until your LO comes. I wish I had been here a year and I would go out early but I have been lucky enough not to have any reason not to work.
Re: Anyone still working this long......?
My due date is February 13/14th and I plan on working up until Feb. 11th. I also haven't been with my company for a year, so I am only getting 6 weeks of STD. Wicked bummer. Best of luck to you though!!
Standard 3 months off? What state do you live in? We only get 6 weeks for Vaginal births, and 8 for c-section. I've been on moderate bed rest for 8 weeks, and as of this Thursday 36 weeks I'm off bed rest and have to go back to work until baby comes.
If your company has enough employees to qualify for FMLA, then you get a standard 12 weeks off (typically unpaid). You may be referring to the time you can qualify for disability? Not all companies qualify for FMLA though (I think you have to have at least 50 employees?) so that might be the case. Good luck!
I feel awful reading posts from people who only get a couple of months off!
I am in Canada and have been on Medical leave since 36 weeks (for one week now) and this does not count against my maternity leave. My Maternity/parental leave will be one year from when the baby is born.
Yeah, I was telling DH about the maternity leave policy in Canada. He wants to move up there now...haha
Agreed!! I'm a full-time law student and work part-time at a law firm during school. (We timed this really well, huh?) I'm planning on working & going to class until I, literally, go into labor. The attorneys I work for joke my water will break in my office. I'll be lucky if I am able to take a full two weeks off school and will probably come back to work not long after that, too. I know what I'm doing isn't ideal, but I don't have the luxury of even a full month off. Unfortunately, the rest of my life didn't stop so I could have a baby. I'm just throwin' it in there with everything else.
I work in retail, as a manager, and am on my feet 8-9 hours a day and running around constantly. I am already feeling burnt out and getting very immpatient with people and customers.
I am taking my 6 weeks paid and 6 weeks unpaid leave plus I have a week to take that we earned over Christmas... so 7 weeks that are paid.
I don't think I am going to return to the same job after the leave because I am just not into it anymore. I will probably look for a parttime office job, if we need the extra money. Plus I realy don't want to put LO in daycare if I did go back to the retail job.
So my last day is Jan. 27th and I am due Feb. 8th. I wanted to give myself a week to get ready and just relax...
Up until I go into labor-which I have 7 days left and its agony...I'm used to MN winters...I've lived here all my life but this one is RIDICULOUS and this being my first pregnancy, is sure one I am going to remember! It's killer walking through the skyway downtown Minneapolis - but it's better than walking outside and risking a fall! 3 months off? Yeah, won't be doing that. Can't afford it! 6-7 weeks at full pay!
I'm working till the bitter end. I want every single one of my precious FMLA days to be spent with the baby.
Hopefully I'll go into active labor while at home and not while sitting here at my desk...either way I've got to get a cab to the hospital (we live in the city and don't have a car) so really, what's the difference I guess... Should be interesting!
I was 10 days late with DD1, and I worked all the way up until the day i went into labor. Everyone kept telling me I should start maternity leave, but really, why did i want to sit home alone and think ALL day about the fact the baby wasn't coming out....it was easier to pass the time at work. Even if i did just sit online all day.
I plan to work up until labor with this one as well. And with the limited amount of time we get off, I don't really want to 'waste' it just waiting to have a baby....
I'm working up until I go into labor (which technically could be any day now per my last weekly appt).
That being said I had to burn up a sick day today (home w/ the flu...ugh!!); and will probably need to stay home tomorrow with the flu also.
