3rd Trimester

Anyone still working this long......?

I am 39 weeks and I plan on working until I go into labor.  This is my 1st baby so I am sure that I will go to my due date or later.  I have not been with my company for a year yet so I am not going to get the standard 3 months off.  I am only going to get about 6 or 8 weeks so I am working until DD comes.  I just do not want to use up my time sitting at home waiting instead of with her when she arrives.  Just wanted to see if anyone else is working until your LO comes.  I wish I had been here a year and I would go out early but I have been lucky enough not to have any reason not to work.

  • My due date is March 20th, which is a Sunday. My last day at work (as long as the baby stays put) is March 18th. If I took off any earlier, I'd drive myself crazy. Being at work with my insane 9th graders will at least keep me busy and help time go by quicker.

  • I am having a c section on the 28th of this month. I am working until the day before.

  • I'm planning on working up until the day I go into labor too because like you, I want to save all of my time for after the baby is here.

  • I'm working until I deliver, if you can call what I do working.  I'm distracted and don't care at all!  Fortunately I have a very understanding boss.

  • Same exact here. I actually don't even qualify for maternity leave, I have to take personal leave and then get terminated after 30 days, and when I come back (at 6 weeks - BOOOO!) they have to repost my job and I have to apply and get rehired. I've been assured that I will get my job back and that they legally have to do this, but I'm still nervous. That said, I'm hoping to work these next 2 weeks and if I haven't had the baby yet, to just work from home at that point til the baby comes.
  • I plan on working until the day before I deliver. I'd go crazy at home. Being put on bed rest is a big fear of mine. Plus, I don't have much time off for leave, and I'd rather use it after baby is here.

  • I am working until i deliver.  My due date is Feb 4th but if i go late i'll continue to work.  I do have the flexibility to work from home if i go overdue though.

  • I'm only working about 15 hours/week but I am still working.  If I drove I would be working more but my car won't be registered until I get my income tax back and I can't really fit comfortably and reach the clutch right now anyway.

  • My due date is February 13/14th and I plan on working up until Feb. 11th. I also haven't been with my company for a year, so I am only getting 6 weeks of STD. Wicked bummer. Best of luck to you though!!

  • Standard 3 months off? What state do you live in? We only get 6 weeks for Vaginal births, and 8 for c-section. I've been on moderate bed rest for 8 weeks, and as of this Thursday 36 weeks I'm off bed rest and have to go back to work until baby comes.

  • I will be working until I deliver! I also want to save my FMLA time for when the baby is here.

If your company has enough employees to qualify for FMLA, then you get a standard 12 weeks off (typically unpaid).  You may be referring to the time you can qualify for disability?  Not all companies qualify for FMLA though (I think you have to have at least 50 employees?) so that might be the case.  Good luck!

  • I feel awful reading posts from people who only get a couple of months off!

I am in Canada and have been on Medical leave since 36 weeks (for one week now) and this does not count against my maternity leave.  My Maternity/parental leave will be one year from when the baby is born.

Yeah, I was telling DH about the maternity leave policy in Canada. He wants to move up there now...haha Smile

Most people I know IRL work until they deliver.

And LMAO at the 3 month standard. I am taking 8 weeks and have to burn every last hour of sick and vacation time during that time. I know some women who go back after 4 because they can't afford to take the time off. Just because you can take 12 weeks on FMLA doesn't mean most people do.

Agreed!! I'm a full-time law student and work part-time at a law firm during school.  (We timed this really well, huh?)  I'm planning on working & going to class until I, literally, go into labor.  The attorneys I work for joke my water will break in my office.  I'll be lucky if I am able to take a full two weeks off school and will probably come back to work not long after that, too.  I know what I'm doing isn't ideal, but I don't have the luxury of even a full month off.  Unfortunately, the rest of my life didn't stop so I could have a baby.  I'm just throwin' it in there with everything else.

  • I was an office manager and worked full time until the day before I went into labor. Even after a c/s, I had to be back the next week to run payroll. I was lucky enough to be able to bring DS with me to work, so I continued working FT until he was 4 months, then PT until I finally quit when he was 10 months.
  • I am working up until delivery. I get 8 weeks at 75% pay from my company. I could supplement with FMLA, but we can't afford to go without my paycheck just yet. I have no idea when LO will come so if I work up until my due date, who knows, I may be burning two weeks I could have had with the baby if she decides to come closer to 42 weeks. I work in Center City Philly, so I have to take the train into work everyday. I am definitely a little nervous about going to labor at work with no car or worse, on the train, but I am doing what I have to do.
  • I've been working from home for my company since moving out of state in October, but right now is a really slow period so I got a temporary job at a tax office. I will be working there right until delivery. I'm due April 2nd so I'll be heading out right at crunch time!

  • I'm off to work right now!

  • I work in retail, as a manager, and am on my feet 8-9 hours a day and running around constantly. I am already feeling burnt out and getting very immpatient with people and customers.

I am taking my 6 weeks paid and 6 weeks unpaid leave plus I have a week to take that we earned over Christmas... so 7 weeks that are paid.

I don't think I am going to return to the same job after the leave because I am just not into it anymore. I will probably look for a parttime office job, if we need the extra money.  Plus I realy don't want to put LO in daycare if I did go back to the retail job.

So my last day is Jan. 27th and I am due Feb. 8th. I wanted to give myself a week to get ready and just relax...

  • When I said 3 months standard leave that is what my company offers for Parental leave.  They will pay the mother for 3 months at 100% if they have been here atleast 1 year.  Yes FMLA is offered too for 12 weeks but that is separate and the FMLA does not pay anything it just allows the mother to have her current job secure when she returns.  If you do not qualify for either which I do not you have to file for STD and depending on what your doc lists on the forms is what they will allow you to be off.  I have to use my own personal time (sick, vacation, etc) for the 1st week before the STD kicks in.

Up until I go into labor-which I have 7 days left and its agony...I'm used to MN winters...I've lived here all my life but this one is RIDICULOUS and this being my first pregnancy, is sure one I am going to remember! It's killer walking through the skyway downtown Minneapolis - but it's better than walking outside and risking a fall! 3 months off? Yeah, won't be doing that. Can't afford it! 6-7 weeks at full pay!

  • I'm working till the bitter end.  I want every single one of my precious FMLA days to be spent with the baby.

Hopefully I'll go into active labor while at home and not while sitting here at my desk...either way I've got to get a cab to the hospital (we live in the city and don't have a car) so really, what's the difference I guess...  Should be interesting!

  • I am trying to!  I'm a massage therapist so will have to see how long my body will co-operate with me. Could be rough.  Hope not!

  • I was 10 days late with DD1, and I worked all the way up until the day i went into labor.  Everyone kept telling me I should start maternity leave, but really, why did i want to sit home alone and think ALL day about the fact the baby wasn't coming out....it was easier to pass the time at work.  Even if i did just sit online all day.

I plan to work up until labor with this one as well.  And with the limited amount of time we get off, I don't really want to 'waste' it just waiting to have a baby....

  • I'm working up until I go into labor (which technically could be any day now per my last weekly appt).

That being said I had to burn up a sick day today (home w/ the flu...ugh!!); and will probably need to stay home tomorrow with the flu also.
