So, when I went to our IVF seminar they said that we had to set up an IVF protocool appiontment. So I do and then I get a call from the RE's nurse saying that I don't need an appointment. DH and I have to have an HIV test done. And I need to call them on CD1 and start taking BCPs on CD3. I have a call into the nurse again as she caught me off guard and now I have questions. But for those that have done IVF, does that mean that I will do BCPs for a month and then do shots and meds next cycle? Or do you do the shots and meds the same month as BCPS and I will be doing my ET at the end of this coming cycle? I know that the nurse will call me back and explain it all...but I'm dying to know if it's happening this coming cycle or the next one. I'm starting to freak out a little.

Re: IVF question...
Hey Heather!
For me, I was on the Long Lupron protocol with BC. I took 3 weeks of BC then got my period. Once I passed my suppression check they started stims a few days after. I think for most people that use BC, you get one more period then it is the cycle after when you start stimming and have your ER/ET
HTH
I think that it will be the next month/cycle. They use BCP'st to time your cycle and to start to suppress your ovaries. I think some of the girls have only been on them for like 3 weeks or so and often the lupron sometimes overlaps (if you are doing the lupron protocol) with the BCP's.
I am not using BCP's b/c of clotting factors that I have, but had I - I would have started them around when you said (CD 3) and then I would be getting ready to start lupron soon or around now. Since I am not using them, I have to use OPK's and I will start lupron 5-7 days after I O.
Since you are 5 DPO I would guess that yout ER and ET will be in March. But, other ladies who have already done IVF will know much more than I. Good luck Heather!!
It seems like everyone's protocol is a little bit different. I did BCP's for 17 days then started Lupron, got AF and start stims on CD 3 of that cycle. They should send you a calendar that has all your med start/finish dates on it, mine even included an estimated ER date - this was super helpful.
Good Luck!!
Mine will be:
Period. 2 weeks of BCP. Stop BCP - get period again. Start stimming. ER 2 weeks later.
She said our IVF cycle will be roughly 6 weeks long.
Hope that helps!
Thanks Ladies...that makes me feel better
Hi HC!! I hope it's OK if I respond
You will be on BCPs until you get your period and then start stims after that. You may, depending on your protocol, start some shots while on BCPs but they won't be stims. For Long Lupron protocol, you will probably start Lupron on the last 5 or so days of your BCPs. That's what I did. Then I got my period after my last pill and then I went in for a baseline on CD3 and started stims the next day.
Good luck babes!! I'm so excited for you
Jim...you are ALWAYS welcome in my post...thanks Doll!!
Hi, HC! So glad you're getting things started!
I did BCPs for a cycle to suppress my ovaries before starting stims. So next cycle, if your protocol is similar.
Good luck!!!
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

Hi, HC! I used estrace and provera rather than normal BCPs. The first cycle they had me on Estrace for 38 days and Provera for the last 10 days. I started stims a week after stopping the meds.
For my second cycle, I was only on estrace for about a week and took Provera at the same time. I started stims less than a week after stopping the meds.
So, the length of time you are on BCPs can vary depending on your doctor. It seems pretty common to be on them around 3 weeks.
Good luck, hon!!

Hi Heather!
Just wanted to wish you the best of luck! All of the protocols are so different-I did 1.5 pack of bcp's, then Follistim, Repronex & Ganirellix-which is a antagonist protocol.
I can't wait to you start!!
