Stupidly ticked off all over again (vent)

As I am getting tax documents in the mail and thinking about taxes for 2010, I am getting ticked off that I missed the Home Buyers Credit.  I realized it at the time, but it didn't make a difference to me.  I had to buy a house.  I had hoped they would extend it, but I knew even if they didn't I would still buy.  Now, I'm ticked that I missed the boat to the tune of $8K.  Crying  I had thought about buying a new house before the deadline but decided to stay where I was.  In April 2010 I found out that Pumpkin's school was not going to let her transfer back in the fall, so I had to buy a house in the school district.  By the time I got my ducks in a row, found a house and signed on the dotted line, the tax credit had ended.  Boo!  It's ridiculous that I'm getting mad about this now, but for some reason this is just now hitting me.  Tongue Tied

    That does suck. $8k is nothing to sneeze at. But like you said you had good reasons not to move at the time.  And, who knows where you would be if you bought earlier? Maybe not in the same house in the great neighborhood.

    I hear you Shelley!  We bought our house a month or so before the credit started.  When we did taxes that year it hurt too.

    But you got Pumpkin into her school...that's the important thing.  Vent away, though, it helps.  Stick out tongue

    That sucks!! The money probably would have come in handy for you, but at least you were able to get the house you needed so your dd could stay in her school. Don't beat yourself up, you did what you had to do! Wink

    Yeah, that sucks.  Big time.

    But it's not money you actually had in-hand, so it wasn't yours to lose, right?   I'd be way more pissy if I actually had $8k and it disappeared from my savings. 

    Gotta look at it that way or you'll drive yourself crazy.

    Ugh, I'm sorry.  It's tough when it comes back and you realize the money you could've had.  I still get mad about $250 that went to waste in my flexible spending because I couldn't track down my paperwork in time -- 2 years ago!  So I can't imagine NOT being upset in your shoes.

    As PP have said, I believe that things happen for a reason.  There is a reason that you did not buy your house until you did.  If you had done it earlier, you might have been stuck with a house that you do not like.

    They consider a first time buyer someone who hasn't owned a house in 3 years, and I did fit in that catagory. The loans on the other houses were in my XH's name only, although we were both on the warranty deed.
