P-90X question

Just wondering how good of shape you need to be in to begin this?  I checked out the back/chest dvd a little while ago and was like HOLY CRAP! lol  How in the world do you keep up?  I mean I could have hung in there pre-preg but I dunno now! haha  Did anyone start this w/out being in decent shape first?  Need some encouragement - planning to start after 30 day shred...

Thanks ladies!!

Re: P-90X question

  • You have to be in decent shape if you want to make it through the videos from start to finish 7 days a week. I wouldn't let that discourage you though, you can start by just doing what you can and gradually build up to doing the workouts the full way through. The nice thing about the program is that it allows modifications and is overall very encouraging.

If you  are seriously out of shape, you should try to build up at least some stamina before you get going to prevent injury. It's a hard program, but it's so worth it!

  • I just started P90X and to be honest, it is quite tough.  However, don't be discouraged.  I'm not in the best shape, and a friend of mine who was over 200 pounds when she started lost 60 pounds in 90 days because she just did what she could and built herself up to complete all the workouts.  To be honest, a good place to get started is try the diet they recommend for about a week or two before you start the workouts.  I've been doing the diet for about ten days, and only started the workouts about four days ago, and I've already lost 3 to 4 pounds.  Even if you have to start with only doing 30 minutes for each workout the first week, just move up to 45 the next, and keep going.  If I can do it, anyone can do it!

  • And don't forget to take the pictures. SERIOUSLY. It's such a HUGE motivator to know that you have a picture of yourself that you do not like and you have got to CHANGE THAT PHOTO! I loved to hate P90X the first time I did it. Remember- it is only 90 days.

  • It is an intense workout but you don't have to be in crazy good shape to do it but be sure to have resaonable expectaions for yourself and dont't expect to be able to do everything that they do right away, just do a bit more each time and you will be following right along in no time!

  • I was already pretty fit when I decided to start. I was running and also was doing pilates, yoga and had finish the 30DS a few times. I still felt challenged when I started P90X.

Tony Horton does tell you to do as much as you can. There were definitely moves I didn't think was possible for me to do that I was able to by the first few weeks and it's a great feeling when you realize it was possible after all.

Give it a try, you might surprise yourself. GL!
