I'm a grade school principal and one of my students is currently hospitalized for pneumonia. I feel like I should go visit, but I don't know if pneumonia can be contagious after so much treatment. I also worry about what else I might pick up there. Am I crazy to even consider it?
Re: Visiting someone in intensive care?
So I don't think you are crazy I think you have a big heart. That said I would discuss it with your dr first, and with the parents. If they say ok, I would go, but if not maybe you could make a Get Well Soon kit and give it to the parents to give to your student? Maybe get all the kids in your class involved with it as a class project.
Earlier in my pregnancy I visited my grandfather in the ICU and there was a woman working there who was pregnant as well (an ICU nurse).
If someone is contagious you have to take certain precautions anyway. I just made sure my grandfather wasn't contagious before I had physical contact with him.
If you're concerned just run it by your doctor first.
You rock for having a big heart.
