Nickname for Evelyn???

My Aunt (DD's Godmother) brought up the possibility of calling Evelyn "Eh-vee" (first E being a short E sound). I'm not opposed to it at all, but how would you spell it? I'm afraid if it were spelled Evie people would assume that it was "E-Vee". Any suggestions?

  • Our family friend spells it Evi

  • This is myGrandmother's name and she goes by Evy and pronounces it as your first example. "Eh-vee" (first E being a short E sound). I know one other person with this name and she does the same.
  • Hmm, do you have to spell out a nickname? Is it just her personal nickname for LO? Or will it be a standard all the time thing? My DD is Annabelle but we almost always call her Annie (only Annabelle if she's in trouble!!).

Ahvee is the only way I can think of and that's so far from Evelyn..

  • sorry to butt in but here ya go lol. we will be naming LO Evelyn if it is a girl and her NN will be Evie pronounced E-Vee. PP suggestion being a bit different may imply a diff pronunciation of Eh-Vee, not to sure of many other ways though. (warning: i am lacking in the creativity dept. lol)
  • I have a co-worker who pronounces her name like that and it is spelled "Evy"

  • I have 2 friends who shortened Evelyn to a nickname.

One of them calls their little girl E-Vee (rhythms with tv) & they spell it Evie.

The other one calls their little girl Eh-Vee (like you want) & they spell it Evy.

  • The DH & me are spelling it Evie. Its because thats the way the DH wants to.

  • If this baby was a girl, she would have been Evelyn, probably with Evvy as a nickname (pronounced Eh-vie). DH was lobbying for Evie (long E) instead, though, so who knows who would have won out. ;)
  • We're going with Eh-vee as a nickname for our DD, and I'm spelling it Evie because I just like it better that way. :) I figure you don't spell out nicknames too often, so it doesn't matter much.

  • I cannot believe how many Evelyns there are now. My niece is three and we thought my bro and his wife were crazy when they named her that.  Anyway we call her E-vee spelled Evie

  • We are going to call our DD Evie (pronounced Eh-Vee) as a nick name for  Evelyn.  It's inevitable that someone will screw up the name.  My name is Bethany and I get called Stephanie, Betsy, Brittany, etc... Just go with what you like!
