Trouble TTC

HSG on Monday...and some questions for you girls.

I know this may sound crazy, but I am extremely nervous for my HSG on Monday.

RE thinks I most likely have a tubal defect after my c-sec infection...and also because b/w & SA results are normal.

So anyway...did your DH go with you to you HSG?  I plan on going by myself, but I am afraid it might be more emotional than I expect.

Also, what were your results from your HSG and what were your options?

Re: HSG on Monday...and some questions for you girls.

  • Hello!

DH came with me but he wasn't allowed to come back due to the machines etc.

Mine came up clear so I'm not really much help.

(((hugs))) I hope yours turns out fine. Good luck!!!

  • my DH did not go. Mine was okay, so I don't have much for you. If you think having your DH there for support will help and ease your worries a little, then I would definitely have him there!! Good luck!

  • I just had mine a few weeks ago...

DH came with, but stayed in the waiting room.  My dr wanted him to be there in case I was having bad cramps afterward.  I was totally fine and went into work about an hour after I was finished.  I did make sure to take some Advil about an hour before.  I had some minor cramping, like period cramping, duirng the test and then for a few hours afterward.

I did not got get good results and I wasn't expecting both tubes to be blocked at all.  I was in shock and knew that something was wrong when they all stopped talking and turned the screen away from me for a few minutes (or maybe it was only seconds--felt like minutes).  My dr pushed more dye through and the tech was holding my hand.  Because of the blocked tubes, we had a consult on Friday and are moving on to IVF.

Hope this helps!  Let me know if you need more info or have more questions!

  • When I had my HSG done, it was standing room only.  DH did come back with me...stayed by my head and held my hand.  Smile  The RE was there, a nurse, and a medical student that they had asked me if it'd be ok for him to be in the room too.

Luckily everything came back clear but that was over a year ago and I'm wondering if things have changed since then...Hmm.  I took 4 advil an hour before the procedure at the advice of the RE and I think that helped.  I honestly didn't feel a thing.

    Good luck!!

  • I will be honest.. mine was very painful but it was because the doctor used a clamp to hold my cervix in place.  Not many doctor's use it, I was just very unlucky.  My husband waited in the waiting room.

They found my left tube was blocked.  I ended up deciding to move to an RE at that time.  I recently had surgery and they were able to open my tube and remove some endo that I never had any symptoms from.   I am in the middle of my first Clomid/IUI cycle.

I wish you the best of luck!

  • My DH waited in the waiting room and drove me home. My RE did the procedure so it was relatively painless.

We are from the Rochester area too- out of curiosity, who is your RE??

     Best of luck!

  • I had my HSG a couple weeks ago and it was not that painful to me. It felt like a really long pap, but I honestly dont remember the pain being too bad.

However, both of my tubes were blocked. I could see on the screen that the dye wasn't moving like it should. I was also given a shot of glocogan, which is supposed to relax the muscle spasms, if they are clamping down on the tubes. That did not work either. I was referred to and RE.

There is a procedure they can do to "roto rooter" out the tubes, but other than that, our option is IVF.

My DH came with me for support, but had to stay in the waiting room because of the X-Ray (the docs and nurses were all wearing lead coats).

Good luck to you! Feel free to PM me if you have questions!

We do. And Dr. M was amazing during my HSG. He definitely knows what he's doing. Also, he is very good about exploring less invasive treatment options before moving on to more aggressive treatments. I have nothing but good things to say about him.
