FF--baby fussing at bottle

Today one of DD's feedings was awful...she would drink a bit then fuss fuss cry and repeat. She didn't take anywhere her normal amount. I stopped trying and rocked her to sleep. She has acid reflux, but this wasn't crying due to discomfort.

I know she was hungry so what was this? Overtired?? If that happens again should I just stop trying to feed her and give her the rest later?

I'm still having such a hard time figuring out when she's hungry. Her eating is all over the place--sometimes every 2 hours, sometimes every 3, around every 4-5 at night.

Re: FF--baby fussing at bottle

  • That is us some days and I really don't know why. Sometimes it's because he's gassy or has to poop and sometimes he just doesn't want to eat that much. I also find if I use a different bottle then normal he doesn't like it. I had to also switch to medium floe nipples because he was just falling asleep and or crying and that seemed to fix it for the most part.

usually when DS fusses like this it's due to gas or having to poop but sometimes i have no idea why he does it...sometimes I think he's just over tired...

  • She might be getting mad at the flow- maybe try a faster one and see?

  • My LO did this as well, usually it was in the evening. We switched everything and still had the same problem...until we switch the nipple size. We went to a faster flow...and it fixed the problem.

This is what I'm thinking.  DD moved up to medium flow nipples last week b/c she started doing the same thing.  It was taking her an hour to finish a bottle.

  • This just happened to us last week. My LO has reflux and gas issues. Not sure what kind of formula you use but we were using powder. He would not eat but would cry because he was hungry. I read that RTF is easier on babies tummies. We are on Similac Alimentum. I bought some RTF and he has been eating like a champ ever since. I started logging his feedings when he started poor feeding.

Thursday he took in 13 oz in 24 hours. Friday he took in 19 oz in 24 hours. Saturday he took in 14.5 oz in 24 hours. We switched to RTF last night. He has already taken in 12 oz in 12 hours. He is still pretty fussy (he usually is). I'm not sure if RTF will help his fussiness since its easier on the tummy but time will tell. All that matters to me at this point is that he is eating. If you are on powder, you could try your LO on RTF and see if that helps. GL

  • Thank you all! I tried using the next size nipple and that really made things better. Dnewby, I would love to switch to RTF but it's so expensive!! I'm glad it's helping your LO.
